Ritchey: Blues Vs Senators - Jaskin Recalled
The St. Louis Blues are set to take on the Ottawa Senators tonight on home ice. The Blues are looking to steal the top spot in the Central Division by the Olympic Break and that will have to start with a win tonight.
Dmitrij Jaskin has been recalled from the Chicago Wolves to help fill the void left by the loss of Vladimir Sobotka. |

Really? But we want to have some fun, we even brought our weather down south with us for you to enjoy (still amazed how less than 2 inches of snow can cripple the Southern US, the coverage from Atlanta's storm last week was laughable).
As for the arrogance, you know we did beat you earlier this year, right?

I am going to be walking from work today. Our office let out around noon but I am still here as it wasn't worth it to leave and then try to come back downtown for the game.
Let's Go Blues! |

wasn't it a 3-2 OT win? Cody Ceci scored his first NHL goal in OT? |

That is because you have snow removal equipment and are used to it. Atlanta does not have a bunch of snow plows around and drivers because it rarely snows there.
But I love seeing how you all do in a hundred plus degree weather plus eighty-five percent humidity. Now that is laughable.

I agree with you, but 100 degrees to us (Celsius) is the boiling point of water. we couldn't even go swimming! |

Good write up Randal.
I was looking at where Blues centers were ranked on face offs. It is not not that great at all save for Sobotka. backes is decent just above 50% but then Berglund is down in the low 48% and Roy is down at 46%. I did not look at Lapierre. He is probably decent I imagine.
It is said Legand can be had and it looks like currently a bit over priced at a first rounder. But he I think could be a very solid third line center and an addition of depth with a decent face off pct. though I do not put too much in the hit stats as it depends on the scorer his hit total seems a bit low at 29 hits in what fifty something odd games? I thought the guy was physical or at least capable of it.
Instead of Miller the blues ought to go for Thomas. If you could ditch say Halak or stewart in a trade(I am not saying Stewart for Thomas).
I said it earlier and Thomas is looking better. I would be good with our depth losing either Elliott or Halak. I believe Allen can be a plus starter. By plus I mean above average right now with a high ceiling. I think right now he is better than either Halak or Elliott. I would be more worried about his ability to deal with astounding pressure.
I wonder it would be possible to move Stewart and say. Rattie and/or some suite of picks to grab Grigerinko from Buffalo. I do not think he would be anything for this club this year but The Blues lack anything coming up at center.
What the Blues do not have a need for are wingers. Berglund should be moved to the wing. You have Jaskin, Rattie, Porter and Andronov to name just a few not on the roster full time.
Keep in mind while Halak is playing better it has a lot to do with the Blues blocking shots and some either bad shot choices by the opposition or bad scouting. You can beat Halak glove side up high all night.
The Blues are looking good overall. Just a few tweaks to add depth and replace players who do not fit in well on this team. That does not mean the Blues do not create off of the rush because that is part of their game. They thrive on creating turn overs and countering with speed. But when you get the puck and pull up and lose the puck or force a pass while your teammates are going north then you hurt a team that works so hard. If Stewart decided to go to the net and shoot the puck and trust his teammates to get rebounds then he would be a much more effective player for this team. But he doesn't and his play in his own end is dramatically less than average.

Would the Blues be willing to move Jaskin with Stewart for Callahan and maybe a 2nd and prospect? |

Really?
Stewart, Jaskin, another prospect, and a 2nd for a couple of months of Callahan?
Dude, what are you smoking?
Honestly, if the Blues trade Stewart for Callahan straight up I would be disappointed. (unless there is already an extension in place) Stewart is worth more than a 2 month rental of any NHL player. |

Of any NHL player? I would take Crosby, Malin, ovechkin, Miller, Quick, Datsyuk, Zetterberg, Pat Kane, Toews and many, many others for just two months for Stewart if it were possible. |

Absolutely not. Not the most horrible trade proposal but then you weaken a strength for an upgrade and a player not having his best season. You also taken on a lot of age. |

So you'd rather have Chris Stewart for one more year than bring in a player that could win the blues a cup? What are you smoking? Have you seen Stewy play against any of the teams that we will be playing in the playoffs? |
