They might as well trade him to Minnesota now, while they can still get something for him, He will end up there next season anyway. So he can play along side his Bum chums Jason Pominville and Keith Ballard..

Wow....I thought he might stay with the Islanders. Im guessing the Minnesota Wild will be looking to snag Vanek. He would help them a whole lot and already has great chemistry with Pominville. I know he wants to play there as he knows the area pretty well from playing college hockey for the Golden Gophers.

And the cycle continues. Premier players keep turning their backs on this circus. I just hope they move Vanek for assets thst address the needs on defense and/or in net. Vanek will not re-sign with the Isles in July if he is turning down an 8 year "monster" deal now.

I'm curious as to what kind of return Snow will look for. Is he going to try for as many picks/prospects or perhaps a 1-for-1 with another decent scorer for JT?

I was just told he was basically offer a max money deal for 8 years and a max cap hit deal for 5 years. I love Vanek but is he worth 8 million a year turning 30 this offseason? I honestly dunno

I do not blame Vanek either. Hard to impress a guy like Vanek who will be an UFA with a ton of offers when you let the seasons fall apart.

isnt it only a max 7 year deal since you didnt draft the guy or has hasnt played a full season prior with the Islanders. Thought that was the rule. If someone is telling you 8 years they dont know the new CBA rules yet

Also this shoudnt be a surprise, he told the Sabres he didnt want to negotiate a contract during the season either.

This is another huge black eye for this team when a Vanek turns down a monster deal like this.

I honestly think he wants to go to Minnesota, and is just being PR-friendly in NYI for the time-being when asked about extensions, when in reality the only team he wants to play for are the Wild.

He isnt worth a max deal for 8 years since he is turning 30. Probably for the best the Isles don't sign him for 8 years. Keep that money and give it to younger talent or a goalie.

Now we need to move him for the right piece. I think he goes to LA Kings for Muzzin + 2014 1st round pick. They need goal scoring and we need defensemen.

Or he goes to Phoenix. They need goal scoring and they have plenty of defensemen.

As a joke we should send him to the Panthers for Campbell.

He's said made it somewhat clear he didn't want to negotiate in the season, and that Minnesota is where he will probably end up, via trade of free-agency.

From what I've seen from Vanek as an Islander, I like him, but he is not worth 8 million for 8 years

I think you'll get more than Muzzin and a 1st for Vanek... More like Lewis, Muzzin, 1st.

Are we surprised, of course not...playing for Charles Wang must be a players nightmare...superstars don't want to play with a team built on 1 line...game over, season over...nice job Charles...Garth, and of course your amazing coach Jack. 14 years Charles and not once have you fielded an NHL caliber team...

Then the trade should have never been made.
