Nice alliteration.

I like Hendricks, thought it was a decent swap from the start for the Oil. Doesn't necessarily fix any HUGE problem, but it was a good addition.

1.8 for 3+ more seasons may not be ideal but surely 1.8 mil isn't going to be a money problem now or moving forward. He's only nominally over paid but Nashville signed him as a UFA & paid what they had to to acquire him on the open market.

As I said before, I like Hendricks. I like him better at about 1.2 on a 2 or 3 year deal but at 1.8 for 3+ more seasons who cares about the money. In the scheme of things it's peanuts. He's an honest hard working player that gives it all every shift. Maybe the Fab 5 can learn something from him & if they do it will be a bargain.

Sad to say, that among other things, the Oilers need to do more of "the little things" much more often. Hopefully Hendricks can bring that change for everyone to start with "the little things".

The play was blown dead with Scrivens holding onto the puck and rookie Martin Marincin was getting jawed at by Kesler, who apparently realized that this was his one chance to pretend to be tough.

Taking pot shots at Kesler. Kes plays the game hard and drops his gloves when the time calls for it it. Kes dropping with Brown. Talking about acting tough how bout the Nuge and the rest of his teamates

They don't. You seemed to miss 98% of the article. That is why Hendricks has been a nice addition. Finally someone willing to call Kesler on his bullpoop for the Oilers. There has been a lack of that mentality since Jason Smith.

If he writes Kes was getting in his face and Hendricks steps in thats a fair comment. Even something to the effect of stopping Kesler's antics or picking on a rookie would be fair.

I read the article and my comments are fair. Oilers don't have team toughness and maybe Hendricks will bring some to your bottom 6 like your blogger says. I'm just saying your blogger should make accurate and fair characterizations maybe thats the difference between journalists and bloggers (excluding clowns like Damien Cox of course). I'm glad the Canucks have grown a backbone recently. Nothing worse than watching your team lose and being physically dominated. If you win and get physically dominated well we still won.

I used to cheer for the Oilers after the Canucks but then I started working with a few die hard oilers fans and they'd troll like crazy so I had to start loathing the Oilers. Sadly I'd truly love to see a fast skilled team do well and keep that brand alive instead of the silly Bruins type model of hockey. The Oilers looked like maybe they could use speed and skill to beat teams last year but something is terribly wrong this year.

Money problems shouldn't exist for a guy like Katz. He's not Melnyk, so the only problems we could possibly have are cap problems.

As a fan, who is not paying for player salaries, you should always ask yourself whether a(n) (over)payment for a player causes cap problems. If it doesn't, it's zero worry.

When you think about it, the Pens and blackhawks, and even the Canucks in their prime would be better defined by "fast and skilled" than they would by big and bruising", so I don't think that formula is impossible to replicate.

What fast and skilled teams do need is to A) constantly have their motor running and outwork bigger stronger teams and B) be good defensively.

The Oilers need to change these aspects of their makeup moreso than changing the team philosophy in my opinion.

i agree. But conversely the big strong teams like LA, BOS, STL have to be good at possession which being strong and good at defense helps but also you need to be skilled with the puck to do so. Each team has a glut of offensively skilled forwards and/or defensemen.

I assure you that outside of Vancouver my characterization of Kesler is considered dead accurate
