Spooner has the opportunity to relegate Kelly to the fourth line if he and the Swedes can get hot. Depth is a good thing. Bs could have used 5 bona fide centers and a 3rd line against the Hawks last year.

That's the biggest thing for this team. I mean, My God, look at how awful their lines were by the Finals last year. Once 17-46-18 went cold, they were toast.

Only because Bergeron was so hurt, IMO. That and Jagr dangling around the offensive blue line for minutes at a time.

Spooner or Kelly can move up if Krejci or Bergy gets hurt. Not ideal but better than watching Seguin center the third line late last year.

Interesting trade deadline with Chia targeting a defensive blueliner if everyone stays healthy. I think Bart and Hollywood will step it up, though. Didn't know the latter could do as many pull ups as Z (31!).

Jagr will take the Hawks series to his grave.

As much as I would love to see Spooner stay centering the Swedes, I don't think it last once Kelly comes back. Julien typically stays with what is comfortable, and Kelly provides more stability defensively. Spooner will probably be sent back to Providence at some point once Kelly gets back. I don't agree with it, but There is only 1 spot Spooner can battle for and it's 3rd line center. Also, can't see Julien breaking up the Merlot line, he like his fribble line too much.

I think it is really obvious looking back that the Bruins didn't see Seguin as a center, based on how they have kept Spooner at center even when they could have at times used his speed on a wing.

As for the D, there's just too many teams within striking distance of that wildcard spot to make a deal right now. And the teams out of contention don't have much to offer. Until the deadline we will just have to pass the time by reading countless articles on which free agent the Penguins will get for pennies to play with Crosby.

When Kelly comes back he should play on the forth line with Campbell and Paille. Then if someone gets hurt or struggles on the third line Kelly could replace them and with Kelly on the forth line it would be a very defensively responsible line. Thornton gets running around look for the big hit putting himself out of position

I honestly wouldn't be shocked if they part with Bart to land a veteran.

This is the problem, too. In a perfect world, Julien realizes that he has a huge talent in Spooner that's hit a point where he gains little to nothing from lighting up the AHL, and keeps in a situation that continues to develop him into an NHL regular. But like you said, he loves his vets.

I think it says a lot that they're committed to this kid playing center. It's clear that playing wing from day one hindered Seguin's all around development, and they're not about to do that to Spooner. Interesting to say the least.

Yeah, I mean my ideal playoff lineup would be

Lucic - Krejci - Iginla
Marchand - Bergeron - Smith
Soderberg - Spooner - Eriksson
Campbell - Kelly - Paille

Both Kelly and Campbell played part of their season on the wing with their former clubs, and that's a line that gives Boston the two-center platform they love, especially in the defensive zone. And that's a legit third line, like we've talked about.

I feel like the biggest difference is that Spooner knows how to take the space that is given to him while Seguin would just skate as fast as possible right into the d man. Im not sure Seguin has the hockey IQ (yet?) to be a good possession boosting C, which is what the Bruins seem to want. Im convinced that Spooner is Marc Savard 2.0, plays a lot like him.

Who do you think is a frontrunner to replace Seids? Of all the names I've heard, I think I like Tallinder the most. He's been underrated for years and seems to be a steady as she goes type d man. Should come relatively cheap too (Bart + Caron?). Im sure theres a good reason Sweden took him over Hedman

Spooner reminds me of Savard, too. A strong skater, too! Reminds a lot of Jeff Skinner in that regard. Just completely dances into the zone.

Tallinder's an interesting one. I hate looking at his numbers because the team around him is terrible, so he's obviously not going to be a standout. But he's played pretty good in front of Miller for much of this season (at least from what I've seen), and yeah, the price can't be too much. I really like the idea of Ron Hainsey or maybe even Tom Gilbert. I'm not high on Stuart like many people are, and I'm lukewarm on Chris Phillips (if the Sens even sell).

Bart, Quaider, or Miller. I'm fine with the weak sister moving at the trade deadline. Would rather move a righty since Seids and Krüg play both sides.

I don't think they are as good as the top Western teams, but that lineup would be the deepest up front they have gone to the playoffs with under Julien.

Hamilton out with a concussion per Julien.
