Welcome back.
Some of the guys were mentioning you and that dumbass Clouts were in a twitter war while you were away. Details? I don't tweet and no way i'm going to read anything from that dippoop.... - Iggysbff
haha, wasnt a "twitter war"....it was nothing more than a misunderstanding that he took...well...much too far
No need to shine anymore light on it, really |

Welcome back Colin. And I think currently Calgary sits 28th in the league.
And I don't think you can completely dismiss Cammy fetching a 1st. It'll depend on what team, how close to the deadline and any other injuries that may take place. - whipper334
Colin: 3rd last in points.....30-3=27....27th place |

Id have to go and look it up but there was a couple articles in the last few days stating Cammy, Stemp and Stajan have drastically reduced trade value at the moment due to their play over the past month? |

Thing is, it will largely depend on how long he misses with this concussion.
3-5 games - not a big concern
5-10 games - yeah, thats going to hurt his value a little
10 games +? - teams might not want to touch him at all as a rental
Then you need to consider that, despite his ability to compete and produce, he has a higher cap hit which teams may want to use for..say...two players instead of one.
The Ducks however could likely bring in Cammy + with their space, and they are certainly a team I think that will be interested. |

Just common sense really..but you also need to consider that theyre playing on a team struggling to win/score goals. Put Cammy on a team with balanced lines and experience, no longer an issue IMO.
Stajan...I dont see too many teams risking much for him, unless they need a 3rd line guy with experience, which doesn't typically yield much in terms of potential UFA type trades. I say just keep him.
Stempniak will fetch something, but it wont likely be a whole lot. Its guys like Russell, Hudler, Glencross that will fetch you some worthwhile returns...but they are also the kinds of guys you want to keep around...so... |

They have 2 firsts this year ( their own and Ottawa's) but I think they want to upgrade their D not forwards.
Maybe Wideman? |

He's already a proven scorer. People aren't going to judge him solely on the last month or even this year for that matter considering what kind of team he's playing for. |

Cammy + Wideman for a 1st plus prospect(E. Etem)?
Flames would obviously need to eat a lot of salary, but hey, why not! |

100% agree...but they will judge him on any recent injuries and his remaining cap hit. |

How good have these guys been!
C Jiri Hudler 45 12 24 36 +1 19:09
D Kris Russell 36 4 12 16 +1 23:39
D Mark Giordano 27 5 13 18 -3 25:1
...average +/- for the team is around -10 or so |
|

And the 1st would have to be in 2015. - whipper334
Honestly, the Flames should trade this years first to someone for their first next year and depending on how good the team is, something else. |

Injuries yes, cap hit no imo. There will be hardly any left by the time the trade happens and I'm sure Calgary would eat half. And being the last year of the deal who cares.
Now if the trading partner wants Cammy longer term than you have a sign and trade scenario. And that's where retaining some salary could get scary. |

Yeah maybe but you have to be careful. I would hate to pass on Reinhart or Ekblad only to lose the lottery next year and miss out on McDavids or Eichel. |

Hudler a center? Maybe you have him mistaken for Cervenka...
Depending on the return Burke might want to float Hudler around the league and see what kind of return he can get. If would have to be very good or you just keep him. |

Who do the Flames take?
http://www.nhl.com/ice/news.htm?id=699869 - Iggysbff
That's the first ranking I've seen anywhere that Reinhart and Ekblad weren't number 1 and 2.
Regardless I still say that if they can, that they take Ekblad.
Yeah there are really struggling to score right now, but I think in the bigger picture Ekblad will bring so much more to them.
While at this stage it is all talking about potential, but it is near impossible these days to acquire a top pairing defencman (or possibly a cornerstone defenceman). Every team seems to be resigning the top defencemen. And to get one in trade will cost a team their soul. So if you can get one at the draft then I think they should take him.
Yes a defenceman takes longer to develop, but no matter who they draft, the Flames are not going to be a playoff team next year. So look long term in the re-build. In the 2 or 3 years it takes Ekblad to be NHL ready, it will then be time for the Flames to significantly push, and he will be ready to effectively impact the team. And somewhat expecting the continued re-build next season and possibly continued struggles, their draft position next season could be favorable and there seems to be better offensive talent available then (ideally McDavid or Eichel)
As for the scoring troubles going forward, they have to believe that some of their prospects (Gaudreau, Granlund, and Poirier for example) will impact in that regards. And finding offensive help either through trade of free agency is usually more possible and can be filled in down the road.
Should Ekblad not be available when the Flames pick, they take the best forward available, ideally with some size that they may be lacking. A power forward to offset Gaudreau and Baertschi (assuming they will have a real place on this team). |
