If I was coach, I think I'd go back to Mason. He did play the bulk of the minutes yesterday, but he only saw 17 shots. I'd let him get right back at it to erase the taste of yesterday's cluster(frank)

Update on Eric Wellwood...he's not even close, yet. It sucks, he'd be a great fit on the 3rd & 4th lines right now.

Have to wonder what that injury will have done to his speed. That was one nasty looking injury.

Didn't get a chance to watch yesterday's game how did McGinn look? Better with him or Rosehill on the 4th line?

Bill, good preview blog, but think tying Lundqvist's struggles to the change in goalie pad size may be too simplistic of a reason and also, to me at least, somewhat inaccurate. The caveat to that is if you think his positioning has been off and he is overcompensating for the issues with his glove hand because he is concerned he can't shut down the five hole or close gaps side to side due to that alteration in pad size.

Jan, a current NHL goalie coach thinks the goalie pad issue significantly affected Lundqvist for the reasons you mentioned. Lundqvist lost about 5 inches off the pads; more than any other goalie in the NHL (according to what I was told).

Bill a while back you wrote about a scout saying McGinn wasn't really good enough to hold down a full time spot in the nhl, you said you didn't agree. You said you would like to see him get the chance to play more, looks like he might get that chance now. If he fails to impress the team where does that put him with origination? If he does where does that leave Rinaldo or VDV?

Looking forward to this one as always with Rangers/Flyers games. Nash & Hank back on track for us lately which is key.

And don't forget former Flyer Dan Carcillo who the Rangers are 3-0-1 with since acquiring him.

I'd come back with Mase after yesterday's mess as well. I am really interested in seeing how they bounce back. This may have been the game where we saw the effects of being on the road so long. Normally it's the first game back, but maybe this was it.

Either way, it's so tight in the Metro div, gotta get the win this evening.

And they have a history of struggling at 1 pm. Creatures of habit out of their habitat.

This is now-or-never time for McGinn to win a regular spot wit the Flyers, IMO.

If he succeeds, it does not really affect Rinaldo (when he comes back) but it would push another player, such and VandeVelde, out of the mix.

Gotcha. That differed slightly from what has been reported in terms of how much padding he lost and the impact of it. But based on how much he struggled until recently, it's definitely feasible.

Very important game tonight. Two points would be oh so good.

Emery or Mase? I don't know really. Mase is ready to bounce back. I don't like saying it, but I am worried with emery in net. :-(

Some thoughts on tonight's game:

I have no problem with yesterdays loss, all teams play a bad game now and then. The key to me, is to come out and play well tonight and grab 2 points. Not turning one bad game into a long slump is what seperates the good and bad clubs IMO

Gotta go with Mason tonight. He has clearly establshed himself as the #1 goalie and that's who should get the start against a division rival in a key game. If you want to get Emery some playing time, start him against the Sabres on Tuesday.

Didn't see the Dallas game, but Hank looked fantastic in the 3rd against Chicago. Its imperative that the Flyers get traffic in front of the net tonight.

Would be nice to see the Flyers come out ready to play from the opening faceoff, the constant slow starts will lead to trouble

Jake Voracek is playing fantastically as of late. I look for a big game from the Flyers top line.

Yeah. Perfect storm of factors played out yesterday. They also always struggle with t bay. Add that to the afternoon game and they had no chance lol.

Will Hartnell be suspended?
The hit looked like a blind side shoulder to the head.
I guess if Hedman is OK that may help per how Shanny seems to view these things, but I think he gets suspended a game or two.

Worried about the energy level of the Flyers after having to chase that game all day yesterday.

I thought it was predatory in nature. I didn't see the slow mo of it, but I think it is a hit the league is trying to eliminate

What does McGinn need to do to win a spot? Dude's played in 25 NHL games and he has 6 goals and 2 assists. Not great numbers... but aren't we really expecting more out of him then realistically he could provide? I thought he was one of the very few AHL players they've called up to even remotely provide an impact in the NHL.

Vande has been nothing special. Newbury should never see another game with the Flyers. Rosehill is our "tough-guy", but really is useless.

I just don't get it. Managements expectations are what for him? To be an immediate top 6 winger within 25 games of NHL experience?

I get the feeling the coaches don't like him and we wind up getting rid of him or not resigning him. Then he winds up being a decent NHL 3rd-4th line winger for another team.
