Dan Spiegel: Jovanovski First Ever To Return From Hip Resurfacing

All I see is Tallon paying this guy over 8 million to sit on the shelf for two seasons. The guy is finished, unfortunately Tallon and company has to pay 4.125 million next year unless they buy him out of he does the organization a favor and retires. There's no point in returning, the season is far gone, he's only setting himself up to getting hurt again. It's already sad enough they are paying 7 million total the next two years for Kuba and Versteeg, I guess we should all continue to trust in Tallon?

Panthers are replacing Olsen with Jovo. Does Olsen get his job back when he comes off IR? If not then that's a pathetic joke. Panthers continue to punish good play. First it's Clemmer, now it's Olsen.

Huberdeau, Barkov, Bjugstad are being developed for a real hockey team 4-5 years from now. This team will make the excuse they can't afford to keep these guys. It's the never ending cycle Dan. Sorry but you know it's the truth. Things will never change.

(and yes I know Luongo being labeled a "superstar" would make some people puke, and I'm not sure if I would label him that)

I was a young Canucks fan during the West Coast Express days, but Jovo was the man.

In my opinion, if you think those three players are four years away you are not paying attention. They are much closer than that to being feared players in this league, but yes will continue to develop into studs into their mid-20s.

During his prime, Luongo could definitely have been considered a superstar. Had he been traded to an American team that gets less hate instead and not been given a contract that since the last lockout now apparently makes him untradeable, he wouldn't be looked at in such a negative way and be way more well respected. I'd agrue you that Bouwmeester is getting there, and Horton broke the elite status with Boston on that top line.

But, really, Huberdeau and Barkov will be top flight players in this league. Everyone else I'm not sure about. Between Gudbranson sort of flopping, Kulikov probably needing a trade and no one else on the team being this close to elite, it's hard to say what's the next step. Is Bjugstad the #2 center with the high end two way ability? Is Fleishmann a keeper? What about Olsen, is he really that good?

They need to go hard after a defenseman of top flight status.

Thanks for the input. I'm not sure if I can disagree with you more on Bouwmeester. He is beyond soft, but can skate like the wind. But getting there? He's already there. What you see is what you get, and it isn't anything I'm interested in. Yes, Horton had his "flash in the pan" moment with elite players around him, but he would NEVER become THE guy on any team. He is strictly support, with a pretty bad attitude when things aren't rosy.

Agreed. I consider Luongo an equal to Ryan Miller. And for some reason people think Miller is a God simply for coming in 2nd at the Olympics.

Things change with ownership, look no further than the Miami Heat. When Billy Cunningham and company, with their cheap ways sold to Carnival Cruise Line, the wallets opened and winners and rings appeared.

I have no reason to believe that Viola is lying when he says he wants to WIN. And with that, you don't think a guy with an open wallet can draw quality free agents to join these young studs? We'll see very soon how Viola builds. There will be winning hockey here, because at the end of the day South Florida is a desired destination for atheletes. He needs one KEY signing (like a Lebron) some playoffs (which will come because they're building correctly), then you may be surprised rather quickly.

Jovo was signed as a fan favorite, and to reach the cap. He was in the right place at the right time. I admire him for working as hard as he has to get to tonight. He could've been a scum bucket ala Rick DiPietro and stuffed his pocket while sitting on his ass. He has my respect.

If Thomas hadn't saved his ass a couple of times he would have been +1. From what I saw on the highlight reel, he didn't even belong on the ice. I'm rooting for you guys, but to see what looks like a charity case on the ice makes me wonder if the team is already thinking about next year.

What are you talking about? Jovo hasn't played in 10 months; there will be rust. Our defense is hit hard by injuries right now to Olsen, Gudbranson, and Petrovic.

The difference between us in seasons past and now is we can score 4 or 5 goals in a game if we give up some bad ones. We can battle back. We are a scoring winger and a decent defenseman away from being damn good. And if we are still in the race after the Olympics, we'll trade our #1 pick to get one of the two.

EDIT: Our goaltending is a bit of a concern. Markstrom is either it or not, and that is something we need to figure out soon.
