I still maintain that the Flames will not be dealing for any goalies anytime soon...still much too early to really tell what they have at the NHL level, and they have some promising prospects (Gillies) who are a few years removed.

I really don't see Sven being moved. You don't down talk his play, drop him to the A and then trade him. Makes zero sense for value of return. I would look closer at Backlund, who is seeing increased play time and has decided to perform the past month. This could be a decent trade with the right partner. Not sure how I feel about losing Backs, I haven't given up on him.

I do agree about Russell. I could see him being moved if Burke doesn't like his current attributes enough. His play thus far warrants a decent sized contract.

That said, there are a few players who remain on this current roster who I feel that Brian Burke may entertain moving fairly quickly. And those players are as follow; Mike Cammalleri, Mikael Backlund, Sven Baertschi, Chris Butler, TJ Galiardi, and perhaps Kris Russell.

I truly believe Burke would be happy to trade most of the Flames players, however; unless he packages 2 or 3 of them together he will only get the same type of player in return so what's the point. The good news is he will have high draft picks over the next several years to entice other GM's. To expect a high calibre player in return for those listed above is wishful thinking. The flames cupboard is bare so trading draft picks for 3 and 4th line players is only going to hurt this team in the long run. They maybe competitive over this time but that won't get you to the dance!

Burke likes guys who help them win, I actually think Cammy stays. Stajan for a 2nd or 3rd would make sense to me to a team looking for center depth. Backlund is a legit 3rd line center with O upside, I think they recognize that as well. I'm sure if the right offer came he'd be available though. Sven is getting the Kadri treatment, he'll be back and better.

My list for Burke is Stajan, Stempniak, Butler. Stempniak would fetch a good return in my opinion and a couple guys could move for depth. Cammy would get a first at the deadline but Burke is not Feaster and wants to turn this around now.

I totally agree with everything you said Colin, and I would add David Jones, Stempniak and O'Brian to that list of trade bait.

I think Cammy will stay as well, but they need to show major improvement over the next couple of months. Cammy won't want to stay if the flames look like they won't do well next year (which Burke is going to address).

Agreed, I think they'll ask if he's open to a contract, if not then he'll look good in boston.

Cammy is as good as gone. Backs I can see going IF... the return is right. I can't see Sven getting moved more much of the same reason EDM is reluctant to move Yaks; his value isn't very high at the moment. I'm sure Burke knows what Sven could be.

If Backs is staying, and I hope he does, Stajan should be moved. I would love to see a good return for Stemper and then have Burke resign him in the off season (we need RW). I said it a few blogs ago, I can see Burke trying to capitize on Russell's good season. I can't see him liking having two guys of similar stature in Russell and Brodie, and Russell is smaller, older and like I said, having a great season.

On another note, aside from the goal we just got, USA is working us badly! Our passing is crap and the US is smothering us.

Or Pittsburg. I think people are full of wishful thinking for 2014 if they think Cammi is going to commit to a new contract prior to the trade deadline. Cammi will want at least 5 years & he will want to make a pretty good $$ & most of us agree he is going to want to take a run at playoffs. He's gone people & he has done a great job at cleaning up his selfish reputation & has blended well with the young players. His play hasn't been all that bad. Top teams will give a 1st + for a bonafide top 6 player end of story. Expect an Iggy type of return as we will have a lot more teams to bid for his services.

Backs & Baers wont be going anywhere unless the return is significant. Any player coming back will be young & have a decent pedigree, will be interesting to see what happens. Thing is, if they aren't traded, Flames will do well with these players. Win win. Russell, I like his transition game, he has a good on ice awareness & if unless the return is 1st round material or a very very good young player, I see absolutely nothing wrong with both Brodie & Russell on our top 4. With Gio, we just need a real a solid hitting, nasty Bogo/Buff/Myers type of D to round out that top 4. I'm sure we can get Russell to a 3-4 year deal @ under 3.0mill per. That's cheap like perogy.

Trade candidates are Stemps/Stajan/Butler/Obrian/Jones(both)/don't rule out Wideman) & maybe one of our goalies.

Top 4 D would look good with a solid hitting, nasty dood like you said; I don't see Russell there though:
PlayerX(Nasty) Gio
Smid Brodie

What we really need, more than a d-man is a top 6 forward with truculance (Iginla!, younger version).

*fingers crossed*

I say he is worth our next two first round picks and a roster winger. I'm basing this on what Burke paid for Kessell.

I hope thats a joke . I was going to say like Evander Kane also, but no way we give up 2015 1st rounder for anything less than a Crosby/Malkin/Toews...even then I'd still have reservations. I'd like to see Evander Kane with us, but for some reason I think he has a bad attitude/isn't a team player...Jamie Benn would make me happier

Jesus dude! You have to be joking. Because Burke did something similar before doesn't mean he does it again. Specially with the draft class in 2015.

It's clear you've started the New Years Eve celebration early.
