Great time of year for Raanta to get baptized too. Let him start 5-6 of the next 7-8 and get Crawford totally healthy. Lets see what the guy got...

Like most guys being placed on waivers, the people most familiar with the guy no longer believe the player has anything left to give. Yet for some reason, many people on the board act like these situations are like found money. I will never get it....

>If Raanta's PK performance stays strong, he will do quite well for as long as the Hawks need him to do so.
>His puck-handling (and decison-making) are very much like Hasek was when he was a rook -- he just needs to avoid the stupid plays.

Really??!!???!!

Stan could have signed someone other than a 40 year old with a history of injuries to be the backup goalie, and that would have kept Raanta in an emergency role and kept Simpson in Rockford. That would have been really smart.

Right now the Hawks have to AHL goalies. And the Hawks are kind of capped out to do anything to remedy that.

And you call it genius......

Ok.

Wouldn't that technically be the next time they do something right?

Good point.
Listen, my thought is MAYBE the Hawks value their youngsters higher than others, so a trade just isn't easy. Waivers might be easier.

Looks like the cap will be around $71 million next season.

Nice. I'm more concerned about the year after when the new deals for Toews and Kane will kick in.

Edit: Right now looks like the Hawks have a little under $64 committed with 16 players signed.

Well, they did win 4 Cups in a row. But since the Wangman. Nothing.

A Conservative guess. 75 million.

That should work ok, but they'll probably have to lose one of their top 5 D, most likely either Oduya or Leddy, in order to resign the captain and Kaner, not to mention Saad.

On the last CBA, I think HRR increased by 7% per year.

If $71MM next year, plus 6% gets it over $75MM the following year - when the wonder boys' new contracts kick in.
