Speaking of stick-work, the one thing that drives me crazy (OK, there are more than one thing) is a player getting his stick tapped by another player and then dropping it. Nine times out of tem this results in a PP for the stick dropper's team. What is your take on this and do refs have any discretion here? (I always assumed they did)

I was excited to post a comment about the great Pink Floyd reference. Looks like everyone beat me to it. ...back to the black hills again

For those who may not remember him (I certainly do recall his Zorro-like stickwork), here is our friend Mr. Schmautz in all his glory as a Boston Bruin! (He also plied his trade in Chicago, Vancouver, Edmonton and Colorado between 1968 and 1981.) And as usual, great blog Stewie.

Great read. I agree with you that some 2min high sticking really do deserve more and there are some 4min ones that are barely worth 2 mins. Can't stand stick work and I know for a fact it will be worse if fighting is taken out. Eventually frustrations and anger boils over and someone will blow a gasket in a horrible way it already happens and no one can do a thing because of the instigator rule. The suspensions are a joke if one even occurs.
