I was talking about Letang, I think Giroux still has a realistic chance at making Canada's team if he can get hot.
- Ryan_Wilson

I'd like to think that Letang's chances are as high as Giroux's. Letang has lots of international experience for Team Canada. I know he was in juniors but still.

Letang had some work cut out for him even if he was playing well. Canada is littered with top end quality defensemen who can provide offense without the liabilities that Letang has exhibited this season.

Weber, Doughty, Keith, Pietrangelo, Seabrook, and Subban are all ahead of him right now.

Players like Bouwmeester, Boyle, and Staal could all lay claim to that 7th spot just as much as Letang could.

Also working against Letang is the fact the Weber, Doughty, Pietrangelo, Seabrook, and Subban are all righties.

I had to think for a moment in regards to staal. I was like Jordan and Eric don't play d. What genes that family has eh?

His decision making with the puck appears to be getting worse, not better. That is something that would be fatal on a big sheet of ice.

I actually think he's shown improvement in that area the last couple of games. Only 3 or 4 "blond moments" as opposed to 8 or 9.

I agree with this. I know personally I haven't had as many WTF moments while Letang has been on the ice lately.

I said the same thing. A few friends of mine keep spouting off about how he should be on the roster. Apparently none of them know how good the defensive group would be without him.

They probably haven't just watched him either. Fanboy goggles...

The same could be said about Giroux. Team Canada is packed with better Centers: Crosby, Toews, Tavares, Getzlaf, Duchene, Bergeron and perhaps Thornton are all AHEAD of Giroux. That's what I was talking about.

And we do have enough true wingers or guys like Mike Richards who play well even changing positions.

Giroux's play hasn't been a lot better than Letang's.

Giroux has 18 points in his last 10 games. Giroux can play wing, Letang is only a defenseman.

The door hasn't been slammed on Giroux's chances, it has with Letang.

Not even as just a forward

I still have to agree with Ryan. It's still likely that Giroux will have some support for being on the team. There are far too many good defenseman though.

Haha ok just a different opinion for a change here.

I could bet If Letang has a hot streak for 10-15 games, he'll be no longer out of the discussion. He's got the skills to make it. Straight the F' up Letang.

Edit: Gunner you failed to mention Keith's name. He's a better player than Subban in my book.

It doesn't matter if Letang goes on an offensive hot streak, that isn't the issue. Canada already has guys who are plenty capable of offense and don't bring with them the puck management issues Letang has displayed in lat year's playoffs and beginning of this year.

I wasn't refering only to points on this hot streak but I got you. It ain't no easy task making Team Canada, mainly as a d-man.

Alot of chatter that Vlasic is going to make the team. Letang's name isn't even being brought up, for good reason.

I have no problems with that, Vlasic is rock solid. But it goes to show they aren't buiding the team around the best point producers.
