I wonder if Hartley is the right coach for this team.

I missed some of the game yesterday, but from what I saw Baert was flying out there, forechecking hard, throwing his body around, and besides a few positioning issues in the defensive end was backchecking and playing well in the defensive zone. I like a lot of things that Hartely does, but I hate how he is constantly signalling one or two players out. He seems to play favourites way to much (Berra and some of the vets). If its a team loss, why the hell would you place blame on young kids like Baert?

*scratching head* having a 21 year old player with big upside in the doghouse, playing limited minutes makes little sense.

In my opinion you have to give a young player the opportunity for success. The best way to do that is to allow them to establish themselves within their current skill set. Baertschi is a skill guy. A scorer, a playmaker. Raise his confidence, let him find HIS game in the NHL.

Guys like Steve Yzerman, Joe Sakic, both phenomenal players, didn't become complete players until they hit their prime. B'chi isn't a checker. Send him to the AHL if you plan on ruining what confidence he might have left.

All in all, Hartley, you are a good coach, and yes wins matter, but not at the expense of a potential star's development.

Wake up.

The NHL is probably the worst place to develop young players.

Gotta think the Flames are weary of what's happened in Edmonton and being harder on the young guys? Just speculating.

*wary

and if they're skittish about our thus far unimpressive rebuild then they should be acquiring capable vets to insulate young talent.

There goes my "not being corrected at HB streak."

And I agree, but they should move the vets who won;t resign and then try to replace them through free agency if possible, or even take on a "project" type veteran that a cap team is trying to unload, obviously need to acquire the right personalities though. Flames would be smart to use their cap space and eat as much cap space of players that they're trading at the TDL or even take a bad contract back in order to get a better return.

Except for Monahan. And Colborne.

not happy they sat Sven , he has been playing better of late. I am guessing they pin a cpl goals on him for playing too much in his zone on the hashmarks and not attacking when the opposition is up close. The only thing I can think of.

Tell you what....imo.....it stinks of Burke. "His" guys are getting time and not getting the same criticism for the same types of gaffs. Sven is not a "Burke type". Maybe just the way I see it, but something is off. Sven is better than Colborne. Not even debatable. Yet Joe doesn't get time in the pressbox?

Agree...especially after last nights game, yah he may have made a few defensive blunders but overall he played well I thought. At one point the announcers even commented on how involved Baert was (because they said his name so often), but when they said his name he was usually doing something positive. What the hell does this kid have to do? Turn into Backland so he can become a 4th liner?

Edit: Though I have to say I think Colborne has earned his spot in that 3rd line centre role, and he continues to improve. But Sven is better than the wingers that are replacing him.

Hartley didn't like baertschi last season either, not just a Burke thing. Gotta remember how much Sven played in the AHL last season. Also, he's trying, but he's one of the biggest defensive liabilities on the ice. He's gotta learn some defence especially when our defence is so injured
