I would not expect a GM like Yzerman to move a young player out of desperation
BINGO, yzerman turned our shallow depth into the best in the NHL (not just my biased opinion)
he wont throw it all away for a temporary replacement. were not a team looking for a superstar to make a deep run into the playoffs, were not a team that was suppose to be at the top of the standings either, we will develop our prospects and use them accordingly
brett Connolly is one of our promising prospects, although he is older, hes only 21..tyler Johnson is 23, panik is 22, palat is 22...Connolly is still younger and still has time to develop nobody has him written off |

It is just your opinion though, seeing as how there is no way to prove which team has the best depth in the league. |

Watching the OHL vs the Russians yesterday I'm very pleased to have Nurse.
Ekblad looked good too but he looks awkward. Strange skating style and almost looks hunchbacked? Maybe it was just me. First time I've seen him actually play. |

Ya, i'm a Nurse fan too. Last draft was one of the best ever; next year is going to suck balls. |

Colin, I keep thinking Stajan is going to be "Fired" like Jokanen was. I don't see anyone trading for him, and they won't want him back next year, especially if they keep Backlund. We will need the roster spot, and I'm sure they will trade for another young NHL ready center (like they did for Colborne).
1st line: Monahan
2nd line: Backlund
3rd line: Colborne
4rd line: Knight
Extra1: Ramage
Extra2: Granlund

If the Oilers are still awful after the 2015 season I would not be surprised to see Mcdavid pull a Lindros if Edmonton tries to draft him. |

But eventually those prospects or depth as yoh call it, get moved for proven NHL's for a playoff run. The question (s) is/are, does Yzerman feel ready to enter the window for a few years of PO's and does he enter it with the current assets and see how far they can go and possibly adjust next year? |

I was actually thinking almost that the other day. I doubt the Oilers will be there but which ever team wins that lotto pick could potentially turn that pick around for a massive offer. Could you imagine what some teams might be willing to give to draft the next generational talent? Could be a Lindros like deal. Which Quebec/Colorado clearly won in hindsight... |

I nust can't imagine Edmonton still being bad enough to be relevant enough for the McDavid conversation. Seriously, if they finish below CGY this year I would have to call the EDM rebuild a failure. Take Yakapov and another asset and get what is needed. I've heard it for years now, "draftthe best player available and then trade for needs." BOLD- moving 2 bigger assets for something really needed. What about a Yaks and Marincin for Gormley? He should be a top pairing D soon enough. There has to be a deal like that somewhere. I know they want a Weber or something but that's tough. |

I would sooner keep Backlund over Stajan, I do not see much a difference between the 2 and Backlund can still improve.
I would also like to keep Cammalleri as is is our only top line player.
Of course this all comes down to who actually wants to stay |

If the Oilers don't get their sh*t together by then I would hope McDavid does this out of principle...how many 1st overalls should 1 team get they have pieces that could be turned into a team by competent management.
If the NHL has ever rigged a lottery (cough..hint hint)...could you imagine the ratings the rivalry of McDavid & Monahan vs Edmonton (once they figure their sh*t out). .

That would arguably one of the best (rookie wise at least) one-two punches in the league. McDavid first line all talent centre followed by Monahan who is more like a Jordan Staal kind of player: big, can score, and very reliable defensively. Perfect for the second line. |
