Please don't ever quote the senile and vindictive Wilbur Watters if you want to be taken seriously.
Also, paying Dion 7mill really has nearly 0 effect on the current salary cap. He's currently costing the Leafs 6.5mill against the cap. |

|
Phaneuf has played really well this year, the offense is not as dynamic as years prior, but he is completely shutting down the top lines of the other teams...He is gonna be a leafs for another 6-7 years |

5 years 35mil. done.
If the Leafs are ever going to achieve anything, this 5 year window is the time to do it |

we have 2.5 mil coming off the books (buyout/ retained salary) If Phaneuf gets 7, that means we got both Kessel/Phaneuf locked up with only an extra 0.6 million per. I expect one of Franson/Gardiner to be moved, as both will be looking for big raises. We have one of the most dynamic young d-men in the league (Rielly) so one of those guys might be expendable |

Dion is top ten since trade in goals, points, and power play goals for defenseman. Can't replace him, despite what media/fans seem to think. |

Even Nonis has gone on record saying that the Leafs will make every effort to sign Phaneuf. |

You can't just give Phaneuf whatever he wants so if his agent is not going to be reasonable then I guess the only option is to trade him. Toronto is a far, far worse team without him though. They're really in a bad situation here. |

Agreed...and get him a D partner that is an actual top pairing D say Reilly when he's ready, the offense will go up. |

Eklund: Does Toronto’s Future Plans Include Phaneuf?? - Eklund
Very surprised at the poll results. Phaneuf takes a lot of hate and deservedly so, but the Leafs without him would be in trouble. If they trade him at the deadline they can look forward to an early exit from the playoffs....imo.... |

Giving up 40 to 50 shots a game someone's not doing their job defensively, trade that bum while he's worth something! |

If we trade him at the deadline, there's a pretty good chance we don't even make the playoffs. Those poll numbers have to be mostly Trolls + leaf fans who don't actually pay attention. |

This. He may not be flashy, but he is very steady. Plus he is the Veteran leadership that is needed on the back end.
Toronto would be stupid not to lock him up.
Probably in the 7-7.5 range. IMO |

It would be interesting to see what his offensive numbers would be if he was playing against the 2nd line or 3rd line guys like he was in Calgary. |

Didn't the article say he was going to start off asking for 7 years and $50M? Come back to reality. |
