Colorado Avalanche goalie Semyon Varlamov on Friday was charged with assault stemming from a domestic violence incident in October.

If convicted, the 25-year-old faces a sentence ranging from probation to six months in jail.

Keep in mind charge =/= convicted. Although the DA seems to think there is evidence to convict him or they wouldn't charge him.

i would tend to lean towards probation. domestic disputes are very difficult for everyone involved including those in the relationship and those who have to react to it.

The Downie rumor had zero merit to it though, it was pure speculation by fans. I mean, I (frank)ing heard that Downie is actually an alien sent from planet Z-158 to kill us all and that's why the Avs traded him for a fourth liner.

I don't think Varly can settle criminal charges. He can only plead out if the prosecution is willing to give him some kind of a deal. Otherwise he has to go to trial.

I don't think Varly can settle criminal charges. He can only plead out if the prosecution is willing to give him some kind of a deal. Otherwise he has to go to trial.

A deal would most likely involve probation...
And POSSIBLY some jail time...
But it wouldn't be a lot, and they'd likely work it out so it could be done in the offseason

He hasn't been proven guilty of anything yet. There are people saying things on both sides so we will wait and see what happens.

I am not a familiear with america law but I just always read about out of court settlements with athletes and stuff like this, Kobe Bryant was charged with sexual assault and it was settled out of court eventually.

Always seem this trials go away before a final verdict can even be reached, but like you mentioned its a criminal charge, i dont know in those cases if its criminal or being sued for the assault.

No you dont want him on your team if its true, but until it goes to trial and all the facts are out, i think the team has to stay with the we believe in Varly as a good teammate.

Cant alienated him either way if you think he is guilty or not while is allowed to be on the team with the pending trial
