Dan Petriw: Isles Leafs tonight in Toronto - Dan Petriw
I agree Grabner could be had for an upgrade to the D, but It really shouldn't be ANY upgrade to the D. He may be a bottom 6 player with 25 goal ability, but his skills on the PK are what should be his true selling point & bring back a very good second pairing D-men.

So you're saying JM Liles can jump on the Isles bus following the game and Grabner should start looking for an appartment in Toronto? Sounds good.

Credit where it is due.. they do have a talented group of players upfront, on D & in goal... no one said they were world beaters.. but they are talented none the less.

They pretty much assaulted the Wild, but yeah. Good luck tonight |

Why doesn't Grabner get 2nd line icetime consistently but more importantly why can't he get any reasonable PP time? |

Ohhhh - you meant NHL level second pairing. Would you settle for AHL level second pairing? If not, well then, I guess there's no deal to be made here. |

You don't need to give up Grabner to get Liles. Toronto would give him away & might even eat salary to do so as the used their 2 compliance buy outs & if they buy him out of his deal this summer their on the hook for 2/3rd's of his salary spread over twice the term of the years left. That being essentially 1.3 mil for 4 years. |
|
|
|
Toronto only gets 925k in salary cap relief from Liles contract currently. You could probably get Nonis to eat 1.5 mil over the remaining term. That would give Toronto more cap relief today & provide the same dollar burden for the next 2 years but then they would save 1.3 in years 3 & 4 against the cap. The islanders would get a decent #5 Dman for this & 2 more years at 2.37 for 2 more years. |

Grabs hands of stone keep him off the PP. grabs is a good player, but anyone who watches him can see he has stone hands. He doesn't have a soft touch, a sniper's touch. His other attributes will mask some of the fact that he has bad hands, but I think Dan is right: Grabs is a third line player on a good team and a good one at that. Good PKer too. I'd be open to moving him but only In The right deal for a legit top 4 NHL d-man relatively young and signed. |

If they want him out that bad, he must be bad. Probably as bad as what we have already. No thanks. |

bold is where it's a problem. We have plenty of #5 defensemen and we don't want another signed for 2 more years.

This is true. Liles could be had for pretty much nothing more then SOME salary relief. I am surprised no one has traded for him yet, considering.... |
