I still don't understand why Roy chooses to keep 2 extra defensemen and only 1 forward. I read something that said it was because he liked the even number for practices but it hasn't been working. Injuries and suspensions keep leaving the team short at forward. The even number of defensemen are going to be off at practices with maintenance days for small injuries anyway so why not bring in that extra forward so we aren't short after a 2nd forward goes down.

Your team is 12-1, best in the NHL. Whatever decisions your coach has made to get you there is obviously working.

I get Barrie needs to play and because the d corp has been doing well (guenin most notably) its hard to justify breaking them up.

I hope to sweet baby jesus though that hunwick does not hit the ice any time soon.

Hunwick wont, if he does I am just going to assume they are showcasing him for a potential have him for a 7th round pick trade.

I'm excited to see what Mackinnon will do on the second line. I also think its nice that he's playing wing and won't be pressured to win faceoffs.(although he's there if stats gets kicked from the draw) He'll also assume a less defensive role at wing and can focus more on creating offense.

It hurts to lose tangs but this is a little more of what the future could potentially look like. With Duchene and Statsny already here this switch up could be good for him.(monumental if he succeeds)

Barrie being sent to Cleveland makes sense to me. He needs to see the ice if he is going to improve. He knows he is still a big part of this defense and just needs to find his game in the AHL. And we're all praying Hunny Bunny doesn't see the ice.

Can't wait for Wednesday

Lots of teams carry two dman and one forward. LA has done it for years.

I think Tangs going down will be a bigger change than people realize as before the Stastny line was our shutdown line against the other teams top units while Mac received some sheltered playing time with a lot of offensive zone starts. Now the Mitchell, Mcginn, Talbot line will be our main shutdown line while Stasty and Gabe can be used more offensively. Which is the first thought that comes to mind.

I think sending barrie down was a good call. Now he can develop and get top minutes instead of sitting on the bench. Get some confidence back. Also now if we ever send Hunwick back down, I think he has to clear waivers again giving us the possibility of another team taking a shot at him.

Cliche has played well so no reason for now to call up another forward from erie. Tangs will be replaced by mcginn in the line up and calling up a forward now would rob them of ice time in the minors to just sit on the bench.

Overall I think good calls by Roy. Seguin also played a bunch of wing in the past and he is looking very good back at center this year, so from a development standpoint I dont think it will be too detrimental for mac to play wing for some games. He still needs to work on his faceoffs as well, because he is still a rookie and we were seeing talbot start to take draws on the 3rd line as it was anyways.

It wasn't a big deal at the beginning of the year but now with injuries they have 2 extra defensemen and no extra forwards. Roy's plan is to use one of the D as a forward if needed. I just think it was weird they brought up Hunwick instead of Malone after they knew Tanguay would be out for a few weeks.

I think unless they are planning on calling someone up to play Top 9 minutes, its not that big of a deal. No reason to take a guy like Malone getting big time minutes and really working on his game to fill in for 6+ games with getting maybe 5-7 minutes a game on the 4th.

+1

If Roy is comfortable with Holden playing fourth line for 5 minutes, and Holden is comfortable, I see nothing wrong with it.

Rather see Malone (like Barrie) get those top minutes in the AHL

One thing people forget is that Mackinnon isn't bad defensively, his main weakness there was his face-offs. On that line he should contribute defensively about as well as Tanguay, with even more speed on the back check,

He should add fire-power, and speed to that line, without sacrificing much if anything defensively.

One of the main problems with that line was Stastny and Tanguay playing hot potato with the puck, and passing way too much instead of shooting.

Should be interesting, Mack is going to have more space on that line than previous games.

Although being criticized for playing hot potato, I think the last couple games, Stastny has done a really food job at trying to shoot the puck a little more and its showing with the goals hes scoring. Putting Tanguay with Stats was almost a blessing in disguise as it is now basically forcing Stastny to play the shot a little more now

While I do think he is very good in his own end as a rookie, he is still a rookie. Tangs is a solid vet who is very reliable on all 200ft of ice, unrealistic to compare them.

Also Mac has gotten burned a number of times in his own end this year (granted not his fault with him being a rookie) however he would be an obvious mismatch vs the other teams top lines.

Once stastny started to shoot more the line really caught fire. It is a bit of a weird line but they have played very well all year. Tangs was really doing well for us.

I agree, while the offensive output of Mackinnon might already be superior to Tanguay's, he's still not the well rounded player the veteran was to his line.

Btw, good job trampling us saturday.

That was a closer game than the final score showed. The Avs had better chances throughout the entire game, but it was 1-1 with less than 10 minutes left. The Canadiens seemed to just run out of steam, and once MacKinnon scored it was basically finished. I was at the Mtl/MN game the night before and that was a high pace skating game (aside from the first period), so the Canadiens might have been a bit tired from that and traveling. Also, the altitude could be a factor and hopefully the young legs on the Avs played a role towards the end of the game.

I was so mad that I had to watch Edmonton vs Detroit for the CBC feed, annoys me even with center ice you cant get both CBC feeds for HNIC.

Roy vs Mtl for the first time, Foote retirememnt...no lets show Edmonton get steam rolled by Detroit instead.

I gave up on Center Ice and went with Gamecenter. Nothing like illegally driving down the street with a live hockey game on your phone.

Officer, I didn't see the stop sign...BUT...I did see Landeskog's goal!

I tried cancelling it after that game, but they said once you signed up and they activate it, your locked into the season. CBC should stop showing so many flames and oilers games, thats what terrible sportsnet is for.
