It's such a worst case scenario, you hate to focus on it, but having a 3rd string goalie that is a known failure rather than at least some young kid from Europe or any other type of unknown quantity who could come in and at least maybe surprise is a bit of a fumble on the GM's part? I know Andersson was supposed to be that guy, and bolted. But still, when the consequences are this dire, at least a bit of hope would be nice. I think it's why we want Murphy in net. Not that we think he'll be good. It's at least there is the possibility he might.

The offense wasn't clicking early on, but what difference did it make. 2-1 is worth 2 points. 3-2 L(O) is worth one. You have solid goaltending, solid defense, a lot of two way forwards, there is nothing wrong with playing low scoring games and racking up points.

I always thought Cam Ward has a history of playing just well enough to win. The only way he keeps a shutout late in a game, is if the game is 1-0. Maybe it's coincidence, I don't know. But Peters seems like he'll do the opposite. However many goals he needs to let in, he'll do it. That Tampa goal off the endboards being the epitome. Teammates are laying it all on the line for him. 6 or 7 shots allowed after 20+ minutes of play. Then he gives up a goal on something that isn't even a shot.

Even if they got him a lead, what happens when the other team really pushes for a goal instead of just playing to a stalemate. The Rangers know Lundvist will make saves, and know Peters will screw up. So take no chances, wait for the inevitable cough up, and win the game.

A lot gets talked about how the Canes play may change because Peters is in net, but it seems possible the other teams may too. There can't be too much urgency when you know Peters is in the other net. Play super safe, get two soft goals, then cruise to the win.

This all fits better with the sad news blog.

The good news aspect, is when Peters isn't in net, the team gets points. A hole is being dug, but if someone, anyone, will get healthy in net, a good run at some point to undo this nonsense doesn't seem that improbable. But it really needs to happen soon.
