Ugh.

Could you imagine being Downie...from one of the better teams to one of the worst, then carted off to the hospital after your first game. He's gotta be loving it!

I wasn't able to watch the game live but I did DVR it. What a disgrace! I can usually stop a dvr and enjoy some of the game but this was awful. Obviously Lavi was not the issue with this team. They are a poorly assembled waste of cap space.

Oh yeah, Emery is a real stand up guy. Man what guy a fighting who didn't instigate the a fight and din't make a fight an odd man situation. Way to be a real team player Emery.

I may be in the minority, but I think Emery should get suspended for what he did to Holtby. For those who disagree, ask yourself how you'd feel about a backup goalie doing to Mason what Emery did to Holtby.

Im actually with you on that, I'd be fuming if someone took a run at Mason like that. Im sure he will be suspended and fined.

The guy I knida feel for is Downie. Volpatti took down Read with a slew foot and he stuck up for him. That's the kinda just salt in the wound. Lecavalier is an idiot for even trying to fight.

The only thing that worried me in the fight with Emery was the shots he was giving to the back of Holtbys head. Those kinds of hits are SOOOO dangerous, even outlawed in MMA. A little worried for his safety there.

Yeah, Downie may have a questionable personality but he is a team player. I was VERY surprised the Avs traded him, but its hard not to like having a guy like Talbot on the team.

I wish him the best.

What Emery did tonight has taken precedence over the final score and that's saying something.

One thing to stand up for yourself, like Simmonds did and what Downie tried to do, another thing is what Emery did. No honor in Emery's action and there is nothing that can justify it.

Id suspend him also.

At a personal level though, I wont bash him too hard. They team did nothing to help him with their play. He snapped, and many of us have lost control at times in our lives also.

The more pressing concern being the score of the game, and what made Emery snap like that. The goaltender, while doing something dumb, showed fire. This team did not all season, and has not for a while.

Probably a combo of things for him, he went from a Stanley Cup champion to this. He thought he was going to have a shot at the starter, and that appears to have gone to Mason. Throw in the shotty play from his team and being thrown in the game must have got to him.

This is the thing. In terms of a hockey viewpoint, Emery is dead wrong.

However this is a Flyer board. Anyone who currently shows fire on this team is an exception.

They are pretty lifeless. The bigger issue tonight is that the fights were in retaliation to what the Capitals were doing with their play.

Thats the issue. This team needs more instigate, and not retaliate. It took, by all accounts, for them to have their ass whipped to show some emotion.

Exactly. I cant say I would have done the same, but at a personal level, I dont blame him.

He will get suspended, but his "team" should be buying him and Mason dinners all season long.

Yup, I won't hold it against him for long, especially if Holtby is ok, but Emery needs to pay the piper for a Richard move like that.

And yes, this is a flat, lifeless Flyers team. Very sad.

The somewhat funny thing is that I expect Homer and Snider will go and yell at them after the game.

The two morons that are the biggest culprits.

if I was a capitals player... I would have been skating over there ready to just beat emery to a pulp.

you just don't do that to a guy who clearly doesn't want to fight.

I did not see the game, but the highlights don't reflect we'll on him, and his post game comments make it look even worse.

Emery can handle himself, I doubt there are any Caps players that can take him 1v1.

I'm not condoning it by any means, but maybe that's what emery was trying to do? Inject a bit of life and energy into this team. I mean your backup goalie is ready to fight for the rest of the team... But I didn't see that kind of fire from anyone else. Obviously it would have been more acceptable had Holtby been willing to go as well... But as far as I could see on tv, it looked like holtby skated down to emery, but I could definitely be wrong on that...

I lay more blame on the refs feet in this case. He had at least 4 opportunities to end the fight, and didn't.

Every player on the ice has been beat by lopsided scores before. That shouldn't be used as a justification for jumping a guy who told him he didn't want to go. That's not showing fire, it's just being a bully.

Exactly. Emery will get suspended and rightfully so, but the thing shouldnt overshadow the loss.

By all accounts, they played like poop. He showed the most fire, and gets the blame. In terms of a pure hockey viewpoints he should, but looking at it from the Flyers perspective he had more balls than the whole team, who poop on their own goaltenders all night long.
