the rangers are 4-7-0 through 11 games with a -19 goal differential
the sabres are 2-11-1 through 14 games with a -18 goal differential
Both teams have started the season horribly.....but How exactly are the Rangers the much more superior team that the author seems to imply? |

I see another low scoring game but I think the Rangers can take this one. - MidnightMarauder
It really would be good if they got off to a good start tonight. The last thing I want to see is the game going into the second period tied 0-0, Miller standing on his head, Drew Stafford scoring the goal to make it 1-0, and the Sabres hanging on. |

It's always Stafford at MSG...so annoying.
I think Hank holds up well tonight and the Rangers sneaking mayube two or three by Miller tonight. |

haven't the Sabres virtually declared that this is a rebuild season?

well, take out those 2 debacles games where we lost 9-2 and 6-0, our goal differential looks a lot better. but besides that, we've actually been playing very good hockey as of late.
it was all growing pains of adjusting to the new coach, coupled with some key injuries. but it's all working it's way out now
you'll see tonight |

GM came right out and said so and we should trust his direction. He is an idiot because the reason the Sabres are in this rebuild in the first place, is because of his direction. |

Not disagreeing with you about the GM, but I've liked your last couple of drafts, especially last year with the two defensemen, who I think are both going to be studs in the league.

Except now the coach does not play the young kinds but instead plays the Vets who are trying really hard regardless if the young guy is better. |

i wouldn't be too upset about it. you don't want the sabres pulling a sabres and somehow going on a winning streak at the end of the season and pull out of the top 5 pick area to the 14-16 pick while not even making the playoffs.
let your kids play in rochester. much better for them to play there and win games than play in the losing culture that is the 2013-14 sabres. kids playing on teams like that end up suffering in the long run...see the oilers for example. |

I think that is pretty much a consistent complaint amongst most fanbases. The coach is more comfortable with the average vets. The fans want kids to play instead of said vets. We have the same conversations around this blog, but I am sure that doesn't make you feel any better about the situation.
I will say this, not bad sucking for 2-3 years and reloading through the draft. |

The Sabres have played 3 more games are still 3 points behind the struggling Rangers. |

Rangers are definitely a better team, but I'm not sure they are much better. Sabres are supposed to be awful. Rangers (Yes the injuries are tough to overcome) are supposed to be contenders. |

are you forgetting we have a brand new coach? of course 11 games into the season, we haven't been playing the exact way he wants. it usually takes 20-25 games to really learn a new coach's system in my opinion.
talk to us about not being contenders anymore in march or april if we still suck. |

So can I use the new coach excuse too then? He took over mid-season last year and has just implemented a new style in the off season. Fact is the Rangers like the Sabres have been sub par in all facets of the game so far this year. They deperately need Nash and Cally back |

how many of the rangers games have you actually watched this season? we have a negative record but we've absolutely dominated a few of our opponents and the last 4 or 5 games, we've been playing great hockey.
i'm not labeling us contenders. we still have a lot of work to do and a lot to prove. just because we're .500 the last 4 games doesn't mean we've turned a corner, obviously. consistency is the name of the game for us. but i think it's foolish to declare us a lottery team and a basement dweller on par with your team, who you should be able to fully admit is probably the most untalented team in the NHL and should be the 29th or 30th place team by the end of the season, because of a slow start defined by a new system and extremely key injuries.
sure, you guys can use the new coach excuse too. but you can also use the tyler myers regression excuse, the no leadership excuse, the crappy coach excuse, the no talent excuse, the no heart excuse, etc. etc. which the rangers can't use. |

So what you're saying is that there is no excuse you guys are bad? Speaking of regression how has Del-Zotto, Girardi and Staal been this season? I would take the over rated Myers over all 3. |

i don't like using excuses. the team should be able to perform no matter what obstacles they have to overcome. that's an idea that torts instilled in this team and its culture over his time here, and i believe it's carried over. with that said, i think the new coach and key injuries to lundqvist, nash, callahan, and hagelin haven't helped. but we should've been able to and should continue to be able to overcome them and win hockey games.
as for DZ, girardi, and staal...they've all been playing well. i'm not sure where you're going with this. staal is playing the best hockey of his career, girardi is as solid as ever after a slow start to the season, and DZ is playing well for playing on the right side which he's never done before in his life. if you seriously pick that tootall myers over any one one of those guys, then enjoy your tree that can't play fundamental hockey. |

Staals and Girardi's numbers tell a different story. They are a combined what -18 with 2 points between them |
