Varlomov

Without him ( and to a lesser degree Gigueire) the Avs would be much further down the standings.

Dude, Alex Steen has 10 goals in 9 games, and is on even more of a torrid pace. Why write about a guy that gets press all the time?

It's a great point. I agree with you. I am more or less discussing if the MVP can be on a bad team and Steen has been fantastic on a very good team

Washington shouldn't be such a bad team though. They have tons of talent and always fail to deliver. Doesn't that say something about Ovechkin?

MVP should just be the best player, not 'Most Valuable'.

I think the MVP should be about the player judged to be most valuable to his team, and if we voted right now, it'd be hard not to give it to Ovechkin. I can agree with that. But Ovechkin has been known to take many games off at a time, so it'll be interesting to see if he can keep his play up, on a team that isn't winning games.

No way and he didn't deserve it last year either.

No. No and no. You don't win running your teams through flashy wingers. There's near zero historical precedence for that. Patrick Kane is the closest (but that team REALLY runs through Toews).

Hes a poor leader and takes off many shifts in a game. Young players see this and can pick up the bad habits he has. One can argue that they would be a harder working team without him.

And what talent are we supposedly oozing with? The lofty standards put on the Caps players, that routinely get bashed for not being any good, also seem to have some aura about them being highly talented, which could not be further from the truth. Seriously, what elite talent do we have in any facet of the game outside of Ovi's shot and Backstrom's playmaking?

Washington should be a bad team, because they are built badly, with not alot of talent, hard work, or jam. That's why they are a middle-pack team, and that's where they will remain.

He took the first half of last season off. You are right ... he does that

I seriously love blanket statements like that. Or "he takes a shift or or two every night." Is he really one of the worst captains in the NHL? Does that even matter?

Ovi is a glorified 30/30 power forward, and that's it. Speculating about anything else is just dumb. You get what you get with him.

Did he take the first half of the season off, or were his shots just not going in?

Do you people play hockey? You really think a player just decided to float around for 25 games, and then suddenly, finally, decide to start actually playing? What the (frank).

Steen has the same goals, assists and points as AO in 9 games vs 12

Steen is a plus 7 where AO is a -6

same number of GMG

so why does AO get the press?
