Matt Henderson: NHL Suspends Hanzal, Gets It All Wrong Martin Hanzal is only suspended for 2 games on an extremely dangerous play solely because Petry wasn't left a twitching mess. Bad form, NHL.

I understand why they take previous suspensions or fines into consideration but at the same time if you want to enforce these rules and make players think twice, be more harsh on them no matter what, and have it escalate quicker if they are repeat offenders. That hit on Petry was brutal, he skated 30 ft with no intention of anything else but to hit him, and to do it right into his head is ridiculous

Don't worry, Scotts suspension will more than make up for the lack of this one.

You can't be too surprised about this though, Matt. Now, they allow the player to appeal the suspension; how about having the GM of the team that the incident happened against have a chance to appeal as well?

I believe they can only appeal on suspensions over 5 games. That, to me, means the minimum suspension for something like this should be 5 games

This is stupidity. He left his feet and jammed his forearm into Petry's head. And you say he should get nothing?

Kassian, Clifford, Whoever submarined Pitlick, the jackass that took out Hall, Hanzal.

This isn't a case of glass players, it is a case of teams thinking that they can take dirty shots at the Oilers because the Oilers are soft and don't take liberties back.

Send out Jones, Gazdic, Eager, Smid take shots at opposing team players, we can add SMac when/if he returns. Rinse and rotate as the team plays through the league.

Can't agree more, 2 games and bringing injury into the mix???? So if he broke a bone what's the payment for that? And does the bone he broke matter??

The nhl needs to clearly define a suspendable action on the ice and when players break these rules they need to be suspended. Injury, score, circumstances of the play; none of these should matter. First offense should be 2 games, second offense should be 5 games, third offense 10 games, fourth offense 25+.

This trial by committee has to go. It shouldn't matter if a guy is sorry about a hit or if he didn't mean to do it or if he is a star player so he gets a break. Every payer should be aware of the punishment for an action and that the cameras will catch them even if the referees can't.

Try to keep it real. Kassian's high stick on Gagner was not a cheap shot or dirty hit. It was a lazy, undisciplined 'accident'. When you say differently, it kind of ruins your credibility about the others too.
