I'd say the Sabres won this one. The Isles are really banking on Vanek resigning with them. Moulson, on the other hand, is a tradeable asset if things don't pan out. Along with a first AND a 2nd, if I'm a Sabres fan, I'm confortable with his deal. |

nice trade for Buffalo IF they can swap Moulson for another first. no point re-signing this guy. good player but not the right age for a re-build and his numbers are likely to drop in Buffalo. Sabres should flip this guy asap. |

I agree. Plus, if Moulson has too much success in Buffalo he could help them up the standings which would worsen their first pick. I see a contender offering up a first for him. |

Yes Garth - Moulson = Zetterberg and Moulson "made" Tavares. Excellent analysis. |

Amen. If his stats on Long Island were because of Tavares, his trade value will only take a hit. At age 29, he's not the kind of guy a rebuilding team needs and as a UFA, there's no need to throw money at him for the Sabres.
There's a few teams, off the top of my head, that could use Moulson-Kings, Flyers, Canucks, Rangers-so there should be no lack of takers if they shop him. |

for sure. if Moulson can score at a 25-goal clip in his time in Buffalo, which is achievable, they could get a boatload for him from some of those teams. |

I’ve often contemplated who made who? Did Tavares make Moulson the prolific 30+ goal man that he is for getting the shifty winger the puck in scoring areas, or, did Moulson make Tavares the stud that he is for his uncanny ability to put JT’s deft passes behind NHL goalies?
And we've always wondered, do your blogs make you sound like an idiot or do make your blogs sound idiotic ... hmmmm ? |

I can take it or leave it. Listening to the GMS PC it sounds like they have the same idea with flipping him later on.
If he finds chemistry though with Hodgson/Grigorenko etc, I have no problem with them approaching Moulsons agent to get feelers on re-signing.
One thing I can say is the future is going to be loaded with 1st and 2nd rd picks from the last 5 years. Whether that is a good thing, that remains to be seen. Having all these picks are great, but they haev to turn into something.

Buffalo did the right move here. NYI proabably didn't want to pay the money Moulson wanted. I say flip him! Buffalo would be stacked with picks for the next couple of years. Miller could fetch a 1st too and a 2nd too.
If Reiger does his job right and gets the picks, this team will be back on track in 3 years as long as they dont rebuild like the Oilers.

No question, Moulson totally made JT a star.
Just like Dupius made Crosby and Warren Young/Rob Brown made Mario. |

The difference is that Buffalo has already stockpiled defensemen. They are ridiculously thin at forward. |

Great move for both teams . Islanders get an elite winger to work with JT . The Sabres get the draft picks to continue the rebuild plus a good player to fill the roster spot left by Vanek . That is what good hockey trades are all about . I hope Vanek appreciates what the Islanders gave up for him . And if all goes well he resigns there . Then everyone wins |

Moulson could offer up another high draft pick at the deadline. I can only assume that would be the best course of action. That is if the market is there for Darcy to fleece another team. Imagine getting 2 1st and a 2nd for Vanek? |

It's not hard to imagine a good market for a 3 time 30 goal scorer, even if Tavares was a help to him. Los Angeles hasn't found a steady left winger for the Richards-Carter line and they've tried a few guys there.
I could also see Philly, Vancouver or even the Rangers with interest. |

No way the Islanders trade Strome for Miller. The fire Snow chants will start if they don't already from the Vanek trade.
I get why the islanders made the trade, but lets be honest unless they move to Brooklyn next year (a year early) they have no shot at resigning Vanek and then this trade will be a complete loss. |
