How do people feel about offersheeting Subban?

Would probably cost us many, many 1st round draft picks, but would it be worth it if we could nail him to a contract?

They might match our offer though - or they probably will match it.

getting players to skate quicker and think quicker on the ice isnt something you can fix in a week. that could take months.

so Zadorov scored his 1st goal last night in the nhl.... you no the defense man we decided to let go and draft morin instead....so how is morin's doing in the nhl...oh i forgot why would you draft a defense man that could play in the league right away when you defense sucked last year....i will never like that morin pick thought it was wrong at the time and still do

Or, management of different teams will deal with player development differently. Flyers may very well have sent Zadorov back to wherever even if they had drafted him. Maybe Morin would have 3 goals if he was in the NHL now. You have no idea what would happen, or who will turn out to be better etc.

I may be guessing at this, but if Morin hits his full potential (notice the word 'if'), he'll top out higher than most of the defensemen taken in that draft. More time will tell, not 3 months after the draft

oh i understand but at the time there were only a handful of players that were slated to be NHL ready at the time of the draft and Zadorov was 1 of them personally on a team with terrible defense the season before (although alot due to injury) it would make more sense to me to draft a player that could play right away. also Zadorov would have had AHl eligibility so even if he didnt make the team out of camp he could have been used as a call up in case of injury...
Morin was returned to his junior team... the only way we can call him up is as a emergency call up .... there was just more of an upside to Zadorov than Morin...

With Berube heavily emphasizing improved skating throughout the team, Schenn requested extra skating after practice.

Good for Schenn.

Zadorov's ability to "play right away" depends on the analysis of the team that picked him. 26 other teams in the league may have sent him back. I don't even know where he plays... clearly that team kept him. They most likely still have time to send him back if they want to.

They Flyers are not good this year, and I personally find it hard to imagine playoffs. Having or not having a rookie d-man wouldn't change anything for this season. If they think Morin has a higher ceiling than Zadorov, and their team will be better in 5 years for it, they made the right pick IMO. They needed to have a guy drafted 3-4 years ago to be able to help today, not the guy drafted this past draft, unless they got Jones. Even then, all these rookies hit "the wall", with the only exception of those special franchise players. There was no obvious franchise player at #11.

Even if Morin becomes a flat out stud defenseman, you will never like the pick, because he's not ready to play right away?

Could have more to do with the fact that Buffalo is essentially in a rebuild and can let him grow at the NHL level. Going into this year, the plan was for us to be a playoff team, and we don't have room for him to grow here right now. It's too early to tell who will be better, but Morin looked pretty good in his first camp.

Anyways, I'm excited to see VL40 and Giroux together tonight. While maybe not the best solution long term, in the short term they do really just need one game to break out and get some goals. I think that would raise the confidence of everyone on the team and get some of the guys going offensively. The defense is brought up a lot but really, we're asking them to win games with no more than 2 goals. That simply isn't a realistic way to consistently win games.

Good kid but that goal was a little fluky. Johnson should have had that. It was a soft backhand.

or maybe...the sabres are in total rebuild mode and want new plyrs to give their fans hope; morin is in the throes of a steeper uptick in his development curve & it would behoove the org to not want to disturb this momentum; the flyers have 2 recent examples of dmen who have struggled to live up to their draft status after being rushed- 1 who they traded in sbisa and another in schenn who is battling to stay on the ice; the sabres haven't learned from the tyler myers experiment...

I would take the pages on which that is written and use it to line your pet bird cage. That's about what it's worth.
