Erik Marsh: Wing Things: Line Nicknames, Howard's Return, Break Up the Datsyuk Line?

how far the wings go this season depends on secondary players. Weiss,Franzen, for the forwards and Smith,Dekeyser on defense.

Smith has looked like crap. Im hoping Ouellete can come in like DeKeyser did and play well right away thus making Smith trade bait.

Here's a suggestion for the line:
The PHD line: Pavel, Henrik & Daniel.
It may be apt since they have shown brilliance together.

Well they already have been split up so that debate seems unnecessary lol I would prefer them not being broken up because that would mean other lines are playing well...I am a fan of Weiss and understand its only 9 games but sometimes he seems to be thinking too much. He seems worried about his defensive responsibilities instead of getting in hard on the forecheck idk thats just me. Franzen is the x factor because when he is engaged...look out...I'm not big on line speculations but for fun:

Z- Dats - Mule
Abby - Weiss - Alfie
Gus - Helm - Tats
eaves - andy - toots (maybe Bert)

This way Mule could be aided by the stellar play of Pav and Z. Park in front and do a lot of what he did against the Avs. Abby Could help light a fire under Weiss and Alfie is creative enough to set those two up. The third line which speaks for itself in a ideal situation but is unlikely this year and the fourth line toots brings energy but will likely be waived to make cap space and I like eaves grit over miller but the line is interchangeable.

Kindl - whoever isn't play poorly (since Smith can't seem to play defense ATM)

These pairing are self explanatory. Just saying I have faith Smith can improve and yes it may take time to develop his defensive game. However if he isn't shutting people down all the time I'd like to see him get any sort of offense going...and if he passes up one more wide open shot for so fancy pass I will personally call Kenny and insist a trade for anything in return.

no on the lines. theres a reason Franzen doesnt play on the first line.
Because unlike Alfred or even Adbelkader he doesnt hustle or play smart.

Okay so do what with him? Put him on a line with ppl that need help so he brings them all down? or put him with pav and z so he can stand infront and be a screen while they score. That's all I'm saying

hes on the 3rd line tonight, but that wont last long when Helm returns for the NYR game. Just get him away from Weiss. Weiss has been struggling and playing with Franzen isnt going to help. I hate to say put him on the 3rd line but, I say keep him there till his play improves.

The Dazzle line known as the DAZ line.
Do not break this line up! You ask where is the secondary scoring well I will tell you.
Tatar has been a healthy scratch, Nyquist is in the minors and Weiss could not score into an empty net, that kinda sums up secondary scoring.

I just think Franzen will coast on that line and kill their productivity...that's the only reason I'd put him first line because he can just reap the benefits of Pav and Z and then the rest of the time be a screen. Other than that I like it a lot...I may switch Helm and Andy but either way. Helm has missed time so maybe 4th line is better for now. Also Tootoo is probably gone if they need cap space for Helm....which is unfortunate cause I like his grit.

Franzen can't be traded...his contract is reasonable for what he puts up point wise its just frustrating cause wings fans know he never puts in effort night in, night out.

I don't understand your logic.... So then trade Thornton, Benn and Alfredsson who all have 1 goal just like Mike Smith... I'm not saying I wouldn't mind him traded but for the pts he averages per season he's not that pricey

Franzen should be a 40 goal man season in,season out. With his hands and size he should score way more then he does. instead he shows up once every couple games.
