Good blog Matt, apparently there are no Canes fans so I will speak, lol. First.
I am hoping for Murphy to get over the hump and start running the pp the way it is meant to be. Gerbe has to stay healthy, Hainsey will be a good addition and the big line will need Semin to stay focused and healthy. Semin is famous for being off the charts and then some mysterious injury that should take a week to recover from drags on for a month. He used to drive me nuts in Washington, even his coach BB at time hinted that he was just faking it. Keep him motivated and he is the real deal for sure. Looking forward to seeing the Canes in action.

Matt writes great blogs which are widely read but he fills his blogs with so much detail there really isn't much left to comment on other than great blog Matt. Occasionally he'll throw a hand grenade like he did at the Flyers GM this summer and his comment sections get flooded but most of the time he's just a great read for hockey starved Canes fans.

Meh...There are a couple other places where more of the conversation happens and more and more of it is moving to Twitter. I'm okay with that.

Thanks for stopping by. I am on record during the summer as thinking Murphy would need time in Charlotte, but minus much in terms of power play defensemen he is going to get a shot at least short-term. You can clearly see the skill set that he has with the puck on his stick. The key for him is going to be making fast improvement playing without the puck on his stick.

Covered the team real well, Matt! I think we might be pleasantly surprised by Dvorak...he looked quite quick in preseason, and his penalty killing capability should keep him playing important minutes. Earlier in his career he produced 35-45 points/ yr, and only really dropped off a little.

Based on last year, I think Hainsey/Sekera may be the guys that matter the most, as they are being asked to come in and be the difference between one of the worst defenses in the league, and being one that is good enough for the playoffs.

I think we know they'll be better than McBain/HalfPitkanen-HalfCorvo, but they have to be a lot better.

Manny Malholtra signing with the Checkers is very intriguing. I hope his vision has improved well enough to make the jump back to the NHL and the Canes'. Fingers crossed for his return and another solid center and veteran contributor.
