GARTH'S CORNER: Captains Speak

Now I know it was a Lindy Ruff era move, but Jason Pomminville gets named captain while Vanek is still on the team, then he's traded. Now Vanek is (co)captain. Its not like Vanek's game has changed.

I like that Vanek choice, but the whole thing does illustrate how disorganized the Sabres have been for a long time.

I'm not a fan of the rotating C for home and away games, I would have liked to seen Vanek as the full time Captain with Ott and Erhoff with the A's but i'm ok with this. As long as I don't see Stafford with an A i'm fine.

I wish they would both wear the "C" every game like Briere and Drury did, then name 2 alternates- Ehrhoff and one of the young guys they hope grows into a captain like Hodgson or Myers.

They did the same thing with Drury and Briere, one wore the C at home and the other on the road.

Pominville didn’t sound too keen on Ron Rolston’s dueling captain concept:

Honestly, who cares what Pominville thinks. We obviously didn't care since we traded him and got a king's ransom back. If that's what the guy coaching our team thinks is best then cool, he's not coaching pominville anymore.

At least they named a 10 year sabres veteran and a sparkplug fan favorite instead of a washed up Rivet or andrew ferrence that you just picked up in the off-season. It feels a little strange but it's not a horrible move. DROP THE PUCK!!

Not a fan of the rotating C's either. But like Ott said . the team is full of leaders and any one could have been crowned. Van seems cold and disinterested from the interview. Ott is excited. Hoff is in space.

yeah I couldn't tell from vaneks' reaction whether it was vanek just being vanek or he was kind of pissed they gave him the C after he said he's not sure if he's re-signing. we'll see I guess.

That's why the NHL fined RR. He sent Scot out to fight. Kessel after the game said Scott flat out told he was gonna jump him. Judging by the outcome of that brawl and the resulting fin of RR, I'd say that's pretty much what happened. Again, let's not have facts get in the way.
