Nothing like calling a spade a spade. Hopefully Sven wakes up and realizes there is lots of hard work ahead before success is achieved.

Feaster and Burke playing good cop/ bad cop .... Think they are blowing this out of proportion. If After 20 games he is a minus 10 with 6 points then you can start to worry

As long as they had expressed these exact issues to Sven previously (which I believe they did) I'm fine with it. I really liked Burke's comment that flashes of brilliance are useless to an NHL club. I think its crazy how quickly everyone has switched all their hopes and dreams from sven to sean. If Jay Feaster's one regret is putting too much pressure on sven what is his plan to prevent that with sean?

I think Burke just wanted to light a bit of a fire under Sven given he was a little quiet in the preseason. I don't have a problem with it, and to be honest, if Sven can't handle that then he won't be able to handle life in the NHL.

That being said, the fans and media are reading wayyyyyy to much into this. Sven was playing great at the end of last season and they haven't even played one game in the regular season yet.

Nothing wrong with what Burke did, but I feel sorry for anyone worrying about Sven at this point.

So much for staying in the background. Let's openly crush a kid. A simple, "We were disappointed and we addressed those concerns with Sven internally" would have sufficed. Now the media will have a field day every time this kid slumps.

There are ways to do that behind closed doors. Why the hell is Burke talking anyway? He the GM?

Burke's comments were bang on. He had the same hard love for Kadri, and that turned out okay. Sven will be fine and i expect that he will have a good year.

No problem with the criticisms, but I'd rather keep those behind closed doors. Torts is the same way as coach though so I'm sure you'll see plenty of "Hagelin sucks on the Powerplay" type comments from our team too.

I think the kid will be fine, as someone mentioned above regarding Kadri, with some players it really lights a fire and gets them going with a "me vs. the world" or "prove all the doubters wrong" type of mindset which IMO is a great way to get young players to develop. Could easily backfire as well, obviously all depends on the player's personality.

Like it or not he has the final say now (and there are a lot of teams with similar organizational structure in the league)....can't just stay silent the whole time.

I mean yeah he will probably fine....but is there even anything wrong with him? Let's see some real games first before we pass judgement. He was their best player at the end of last season.

Yup. Anybody that thought Burke would just sit in a room and wait to critique and grade Feasters ideas is out to lunch.

If anybody listened to the Burke press conference he is already getting fans ready that Monahan will be sent back. Burke said the only way he stays up is if the coach is going to play him a lot. Hartely is on record for liking to use veterans for most situations and i don't see that changing, at least not in the first 9 games.

Additionally, if you look at the lines I posted yesterday, its going to be damn hard to develop Sean with Stajan, Backlund, Colborne all needing development of their own...save for Stajan, but you know what I mean.

He won't stay silent period. Been on the job less than a month and already he's yapping to the media. Going to be some comedy gold to come, I like it.

Yup. With the addition of Colborne and that Burke/Feaster want him to become a 3rd line checking center, there is no chance that they will keep Monahan up if there is a chance that he has to play on the 4th line. As for Stajan this will be his last year on the team. They will not be able to trade him until closer to the deadline even if all the development players take huge leaps at the start of the season.

Absolutely! D Sutter cranked his players in the pressers after losses in the playoff run. Calling out players that are paid & should be performing is one way to light a fire under them. Cant exactly just send them to their rooms. They need to play better. Management & Hartley see how he has been approaching this training camp & preseason or they wouldn't of said what they did. They are going to give him every chance & this is part of growing up. He really didn't show much in the prospect camp either & these are not habits you want players to learn that are acceptable early in their career. I am very surprised this had to be saidbut then, I was pretty surprised with his underwhelming camp & preseason. We'll see what Sven is made of & best do it now.

I have nothing against Burke ripping a player, but he shouldn't say that I'm not going to rip him stuff if he going to say stuff like this.

The quiet, remain in the background, behind closed doors has been so successful with the franchise as of late hasn't it? I think that the occasional call out is healthy and where warranted, necessary. I'm sure there has been more than a few behind closed doors chats already with Sven and thus the public statement. Peter Maher had mentioned he takes his game seriously and if so, hopefully he'll get the message... I just hope we all (and I think we do) realize he still needs to develop...
