It's simply a move that a rebuilding team has to make. I'm not too sure that Joe is as good as people make him out to be, but what does CGY have to lose? |

Centre depth is a good thing, and he came cheap. I wish the Oil would've been able to pick him up instead. |

Thats the nice thing about prospects - not everyone will agree!
But I stand firm with my opinion that Colborne will be a solid pickup for the Flames in exchange for a 4th rounder. Not sure how to argue against a low risk high reward deal...tbh. |

Not Colborne.
And honestly, if Stajan is the reason a guy can't crack the lineup... That guy's gonna have trouble in the NHL. |

Matty Franchise??? Come on now...
In all seriousness, he has had a good pre-season, and could be a viable 2B, 3rd line guy as long as he can keep his face-off % up. He was arguably the Flames most consistent forward last year. |

Stajan was the Leafs most consistent forward when they totally sucked too. |

Shaune Vetter: Am I Missing Something?
The team is shaping up, although some aspects do seem a little confusing. - vetts
Dude, it doesn't matter what you are seeing on the depth chart now, Colborne could be a part of another package that get's us a much higher profile RFA not coming to terms with their respective teams. Big young centre former 1st rounders still worth rolling the dice on could be the difference in making another deal for a potential impact player. On the flip side, if he get re energized playing in his home town & plays like a 1st rounder, we have guys like Stajan, Stemps & Cammi that are all UFA's the end of this year & could potentially have some pretty good trade deadline value. Either way, assets we are not used to having in Flames country for quite some time. |

Depends on the effect he has on the development of others. COULD be a win. NOT YET a win. |

why are we all of a sudden complaining about depth at centre with big players?
Also I wouldn't include Byron on a list with Granlund. Byron is going to follow Neminsz's path I think.
At least the Ekblad vs Reinhart decision is easier now. Unless a RW climbs the ranks in a hurry. |

Hard to complain when the franchise is week down the middle. Cost was low! |

Couldnt agree more...this was a good move for the Flames given that Colborne has yet to break out. Toronto couldnt afford to give him the time, Calgary can andas a result benefited from their lack of cap space and or patience. |

I would say he has a better chance of cracking the NHL than the average fourth rounder and it's not like you guys are maxed out at forward depth |

Yeah, to me, a debate about whether it's worth picking up a player with promise whne you already have promising players is silly. Having more good players is a good thing and there are no guarantees with prospects. |

Agreed...
Vetts, I have to disagree with you on this one. I think Monahan's fate is squarely in Monahan's hands, Colborne coming here won't change that. IF Colborne can raise his play and Monahan stays and thrives, then I see the Backland's and Stajan's being at risk of losing a job and being trade bait...

Stajan today is a far more complete player then he was with leafs ... When he came here he wasn't aware that in the nhl you have to backcheck ... Playing for sutter taught him that.... I don't think he is a top 6 center but I do think that anyone who bashes the guy is basing it on the guy the flames traded for not the guy he is today |
