Agreed. I'll be pretty pissed. No one will claim them on waivers and even if they are we won't miss them. If we really need to dress one we can wait for an injury and call them up.

Carter and Bernier fight if needed. Clowe will drop the mitts. Don't see a reason to keep a fighter over a guy like Olesz or Josefson.

Yup. We have plenty of players that can fight. None that can fight the heavyweights, but that shouldn't really matter unless we are playing the Sabres.

Do you guys think Olesz can play physical enough to play on a 4th line? I haven't been crazy about Carter/Gionta this preseason, but we'd definitely need some muscle if they were to sit out.

Edit: I also think Gio will be sent down. His play hasn't gotten worse, its just a numbers game and he's one of the only guys on a two-way deal. The hard facts are that we need to cut a few forwards, and it'd be better to send him down than to lose people on waivers.

I haven't exactly been crazy about olesz either, at least not as much as you guys. Don't mind him as an extra but the only part of CBGB I'd replace is JJ for Gio.

ya i havent seen anything that has really impressed me about olesz. personally i would put carter-jj-bernier as the 4th leaving gionta, olesz and tedenby on the outside looking in.

He's got some nice size and decent offensive ability to fit in to our system, but he's also doesn't have great speed and his passes have been pretty inaccurate. Decent depth, but nothing to replace anyone.

agreed.

I'm really excited about this team, and these lines, and what they're capable of. Larsson looking as good as he has is something to be excited about too.

Elias-Henrique-Ryder
Clowe-Zajac-Brunner
Zubrus-Loktionov-Jagr
Carter/Olesz-Josefson-Bernier

golden.
CZB has shown chemistry already! The 2 new guys centered by our most competent center, and it's working well. Those 38 assists Clowe had in San Jose were no fluke. He's got size and can make plays. This is a solid line with Brunner's speed on the RW.

Zubrus-Loktionov have always had decent chemistry (with Kovy on the wing), but I think Jagr is a great fit here. They all think the game well; smart players. Jagr could be to Zubrus-Lokti, what he was to the big bodied Hartnell and young skilled Giroux.

While Henrique hasn't been dynamite, we know Elias makes players around him better. We've seen Elias excel with everyone thus far. However, the other 5 mentioned above already have chemistry, and no room for Elias on either LW. They haven't been together much, but I think Elias could be the playmaking winger Ryder seems to need. I think these 3 would thrive together.

Josefson has impressed. He looks comfortable and solid out there. Gionta has a 2-way. It should be obvious who is on the 23 man roster. Let's just hope it's obvious to DeBoer too. I want Carter on the team because of his versatility (like Josefson), and brings grit if we need it. Olesz hasn't been great, but he's been good. Love his size and he's got offensive ability too.. tho I agree about the passes. Either player would be good here.

I'd argue this 4th line could be every bit as good as CBGB.

we can roll these 4 lines easily. Never a bad shift. Never a fatigued line.

KEEP TEDENBY. He's the perfect injury replacement! In limited preseason games, we saw his puck control and poise improved. Those 10lbs or whatever of muscle he put on seemed to have a positive effect, like we've all been waiting for. We can't lose him to waivers, and I still think he may have a spot on the team eventually. He's shown the abilities to hang with our top players. We have some older players that may need "maintenance", and I think Tedenby is a great fill in for that.

This means Barch, Janssen, Gionta, Kinkaid have to go.
The idea of having to have a fighter on your team is outdated and dumb. We need to win games, not fights. Let Scott take instigator penalties, i don't care. Like you said, Carter or Bernier can step up.. even Salvador. With Kovy being gone we need as many serviceable players in the lineup as possible.

You gotta think Lou is working on a trade. We need 1 more to be off the team; one of Fayne, Harrold, Urbom .. because I just don't see Volchenkov being moved.

We have to keep one of Janssen or Barch. Every team has to have an enforcer around. I know bernier carter and clowe can fight but their not much up against a john scott. I like janssen for for fighting but barch actually has some skill but couldnt win a fight to save his life.

I hope JJ makes the team. He's shown that he belongs here and I like what he brings with his speed, 2 way game. He would make up for Gionta's loss if he gets cut because Gio is a good PK guy.

Devils for the cup. Not being sarcastic I think they are a much better team then people realize. I like the team hated kovy. Also they seem like a team that thrives in an underdog role(general statement not saying they are underdogs).I may be drunk but good luck devils

I agree you need toughness, but that doesn't necessarily mean an enforcer. If they're going to send a big dummy on the ice looking to pick a fight, then use his lack of skills against him and score on that line or let him draw a roughing penalty. Toughness is a must, but that's where Clowe is going to earn about 3 million a year of that contract since he can occasionally pass the puck and (maybe) score.

It's a role you can play with shared responsibility. Teams like Detroit don't have enforcers... they just have pests and a group of guys that share the toughness load.

Yeah i see what your saying its just my own personal thought. I would like to have an enforcer around but we just have too much talent around to keep them it seems.

I dont remember a time when we had these kind of options in the past.

Everyones got to come at the devils. God forbid the islanders aren't finishing above the devils.Holy hell we made the playoffs once and think that nothing can go wrong with our old ass goalie and a back up that my dog could score on.

Apparently you need a star forward to make the play offs ? Hell I remember for a longest time the only star we had was in net and it looks like we have found another one!
