If the defense shows improvement this year and the possibility of being a good unit for some years to come, I would not be opposed to paying Miller $5 million for six years.

I know he is an average goalie at best, but with a good defense, I feel like he can succeed.

And maybe I am being a little bit of a Buffalo homer here, but it only seems right that he stays a Sabre for his whole career and retires as one. I think he is one of those Buffalo sports types that people would want for that to happen. He has been the face of the franchise for quite a while.

Pegula also wanted Lindy Ruff to stay and told us he wasn't going anywhere...

Yes, and that was true for a while. When new ownership took over, everyone wanted him to clean house. Which they didn't for a couple of years.

Then they noticed that change was needed. The same could happen with Miller.

Good question. I don't know and I would not blame him if he does not.

But is there a team out there that would give him a pay increase?

I don't think he is worth any more than he already makes.

The same could happen with Darcy Regier and Ted Black. Many would say the same SHOULD happen with them.

Miller is a great goalie. The 2010 Olympics sealed the deal for me.

BTW I am still fuming about the fine for "player selection". I don't see where Rolston had many options after Corey Tropp got his jaw broken, got concussed and left a puddle of blood on the ice. How many others feel the same way?

Why Ted Black? I don't see him going anywhere. That is Pegula's "right hand man".

That is the argument with Miller, though. He had a great year that Olympic year, the others, not so much.

Give him some quality D and he is a perennial Vezina contender, IMHO. On the other hand, Tyler Myers' soft-handed passes in past to opposing forwards make him look like crap.

Tropp didn't exactly get jumped though. He picked a fight and lost. Why does that always have to lead to another fight? It's like a guy having to fight every time he connects on a big hit.

Even if Miller goes somewhere else he will always be remembered as a Sabre.

It will look strange seeing him in another uni.
Like seeing Thurman Thomas as a Dolphin or
Mats Sundin as a Canuck

I agree with the fine, Rolston should be in control of his players.
I only heard that Tropp has a broken jaw, didn't hars anything about a concussion.

I think that the "Player Selection" part of that ruling is dumb. "Player conduct is a better description.

If player selection could be fined the Leafs would owe millions for have Raycroft and Toskala in nets for those years!

I agree. I feel with Miller in net we can never really commit to the full "rebuild." We will be a competitive team in a few years, but without that star player taken 1-5 in the draft we won't be a contendor, imo.

The whole premise that John Scott "attacked" that dirty American Phil Kessel is false.
When I rewatch the video, I see Kessel putting his hands up and striking Scott first, then skating backwards while 2 other Leafs attacked Scott some more, then taking several 2-handed swings with his stick at Scott's legs. The spearing incident by Kessel happened after the goalie scrum, several minutes later. And for all of that, Kessel was let off with a meaningless suspension.

According to your logic, Kessel's coach should have been fined for his players' conduct. And note I didn't even mention Clarkson.
