Carchidi writing in the Inq that Laughton gets 9 more games this season before his ELC kicks in.

I think he gets sent back before the season starts, the forward crop is just too deep right now.

True, but I was wondering more about the accuracy of Carchidi's statement. I was under the impression that Laughton used up his games last season.

Under the same impression because Holmgren stated that in a STH meeting.

I really hope Schenn signs a Couturier type of bridge contract.

I doubt it though. I have a feeling he's going to score a lot of goals this year and I want us to lock him up before he does.

The debate on philly.com is that he gets up to 9 games every year. I know this is not true, but can find no definitive answer as to whether or not in applies this season other than what Bo said about Homer at the STH meetings.

I brought up the case of Mark Scheifele. In 11/12, he played 7 games for the Jets and was sent back to juniors. Last season, he played in 4 more games before, again, being sent back to juniors. His ELC will kick-in this season as he's now 20 years old. His case could be different for some reason, but it's a case where a player has had 2 tryouts who had his ELC not count in either of those seasons.

Laughton may have different circumstances, and I'd hope Homer knows what he's talking about. Apparently someone had sent in a question to capgeek, but I never heard about a response.

I don't see anything to worry about with B Schenn's next contract.

Nor do I.

It'll be a bridge (my guess is a two year, similar to Coots') and it'll be reasonable.

For example, his base Salary for the 3 Seasons of his EL deal, which is what he's actually been paid, is around 900K give or take. So if he next deal is around 2.8M, that is an enormous raise. Which would be fair in my opinion.

That's what I'm guessing. His base salary will go up, but his cap hit will possible be a very slight raise, but most likely will drop.

I'm talking (via EMAIL) to Matthew Wuest, the admin at capgeek. I told him (paraphrased) about what Homer said (if Laughton plays 1 game as a Flyer this season, his ELC kicks in) and pointed out the facts of Scheifele's 2 years. He asked for a URL of Holmgren, and I told him it was said to STH's and didn't know of a word-for-word transcript.

I don't see any real roadblocks in getting Schenn re-signed, unless he has a breakout year before getting an extension finished. Even if he does have a breakout year, I could see them doing a "bridge" deal like the deal the Leafs got done with Kadri.

Agreed, depending on his upcoming season and when the deal actually gets done, I see a 2 year deal with a cap hit somewhere between 2-2.75 million.

A little too rich for my blood.

Those are Nazem Kadri like numbers. I don't believe Brayden has reached that level yet.

Edit: L8 again. Damn.

The difference is that Kadri's had his breakout season, while Schenn hasn't. If he does have a big season this year, then they will be at a similar level.

I don't disagree with that. Maybe it will be lower.

And I wouldn't have a problem with those numbers if he has. If not, then they should be a tad lower, closer to the 2-2.25 range.
