Peter Tessier: Chevy Extended in a Display of Confidence My thoughts on the recent contract extension of Jets GM Kevin Chevaldayoff. An extension that came half way into his current 5 year deal.

I watched the presser and Chipman explained his reasons pretty well. In a nutshell they have a lot of confidence in Chevyand feel the organization has made huge strides. They implied that the organization was a mess and that the prospect cupboard was bare when they took ownership. He feels Chevy has built a solid foundation and is sticking to the plan to get the team competitive for the long term.

The team needs up and coming prospects to push the vets for jobs. If guys aren't worried it is easy to take a day off here and there. Since consistency is the biggest problem the Jets have had it makes sense. Time will tell. I'm impressed with the job he has done so far.

He has drafted really well since he has taken over this team, and he has made some really low risk high reward type trades, didnt really overspend too incredible much when he signed that core to all those extensions.

I think he has earned that extension since he did clean up a lot of mess that was inherited with the Thrashers group.

I think he has done all the right things so far, but until he rebuilt a team taht gets into the playoffs, its all for nothing.

He always reminded me of Edms old GM. Far too patient for my taste, but if WPG fans like him thenI guess this is a good move.

Agreed. Can't call him a bad GM at all, but he hasn't been great either.

He needs to fire Noel IMO.

I missed the presser due to being on a plane and I think what was said was what I expected. I have no issue with that logic or reason.

One problem I see with one segment of the Jets fan base is some feel TNSE is responsible for what they inherited. I disagree with that sentiment.

TNSE is responsible for fixing the problems they purchased/inherited and I believe Chevy has moved competently in that direction.

Agreed. They are in way better shape now then they were two years ago.

I think that's based on some speculation due to the relationship with Winnipeg and the Jets.

TNSE would likely do a pretty exhaustive search IMO should/when Noel has to be replaced.

If I remember correctly, that was a opinion article by Gary Lawless, and he likes to fly off the handle sometimes in his articles.
