The miller situation is kind of annoying. If hes not gonna attended off season workouts, the least he can do is show up in shape. Not the way to make a good impression on a new coaching staff

So im gonna go out on a limb here and say, miller to the A and lindberg makes the team.

I would say blind squirrel and acorn but Pyatt and AV have a long-standing relationship, so who knows...

If Av has Sather sign Hedberg before Stepan, I might explode.

Signing Hedberg to a $750K contract and trading or sending down Biron might be a smart move to help get Stepan signed. At worst, we save another $300K at best, Biron gets picked up and we save $1M in cap. As we are now, $2.1M plus $2.4M when Asham, Powe, Johnson get sent down, we are left with $4.5M. That needs to pay Stepan, and 2 more forwards for our opening roster when Cally and Hags are out. If Stepan gets $3-3.5M, its very tight. Move Biron, and our Cap becomes $5.5M which allows us to have Danny Kristo's salary and then another prospect thats under $1M in cap.

I like Biron as a person and a team mate but I can't deny that Hedberg wouldn't be a solid backup. Biron has overall been a good backup (solid in 2012 but then again, who wasn't?), but last year he showed some serious inconsistency in his game. And his Holland Tunnel 5 hole has been one of the most frustrating things in the past years. Hedberg is a more aggressive, faster, and more talented skilled goalie than Biron. If we can get him for $750K, I'm all for it (considering he has a good camp).

JT Miller - Very disappointing. Came in out of shape because he didn't think he'd get a spot? Crybaby or a$$hole? You pick.

McIlrath - learning from Beukeboom and Ulfie? What's there not to like?!?!?

My expectations of McIlrath have pretty much turned into another wasted 1st round pick. Can't deny his size, grit, and toughness. Problem is, can he control the puck, make a decent 1st pass out in the NHL? If there's one thing we learned in the past 8 years since the 2005 lockout, the NHL today is no longer a league where players that can't skate and play can survive. McIlrath may prove valuable in his toughness, but if he can't play, then its worthless. If he was a 2nd or 3rd round pick, I would really just shrug and say whatever happens happens. But as a 1st rounder, its another big let down in a long line of wasted high draft picks.

Where is reported that JT Miller came into camp out of shape? I only ask, because the only things that I've seen is that he couldn't finish the conditioning drills, because of a tweeked hammy. I've seen that kid play at the OHL level and obviously for the Rangers last year, and while he may not be ready for the big time yet, the one thing I would never question is his heart. He is a real heart and soul player, so maybe we should let this one play out a little.

saw that, but i haven't seen it reported anywhere else besides one tweet from a not really credible reporter that says "he looked gassed to me" when he left the ice with the tweaked hammy.

We will never know his worth until he gets a shot. At least we can hope he is an upgrade to Stu Bickel; who I hope worked on his game and makes it tough to send down (I have a feeling he would get claimed if he did).

Yeah, I did read it. And, I haven't seen that reported elsewhere. I saw that he left the ice laboring with a tweaked hammy, which may give the impression that he looked out of shape. Do you really think it is fair to call a 20 year old kid either a crybaby or an a**hole, without really knowing what the hell is going on?

Perhaps not...

I just don't want a Krieder part 2 with this one.

the kid hasn't played an nhl game yet and you're already calling the pick a waste?

the second he was drafted, the rangers said he'd be a 4 year project. he's right on pace with where they thought he would be at this point in time and i'm not ready to write him off until he gets his shot.

Come on, you can't honestly say Kreider was out of shape, crying, not prepared, etc... Kreider had some growing pains and a tough coach that gave him tough love. I don't think you can tarnish his character or work ethic because of that.

i think kreider is gonna KILL IT this season.

i didn't realize how freakin strong and powerful this kid really is. he's a physical BEAST that might be faster than hagelin and as good a skater as mcdonagh

Yup, I'm calling him a wasted TOP pick. He hasn't played a single NHL game for a reason. Like I said, if he was drafted 20-30 spots lower, I wouldn't call it a waste, I'd call it a project. Fact of the matter, if your drafted TENTH overall in the NHL draft, you shouldn't be a 4 year project and still even wondering if you have good enough basic skill sets to play in the NHL.

Just like Jessiman and even Lee Farladeau, there is a long list of players drafted after McIlrath that are far superior and ready to impact. Namely, Fowler, Gromley, Kuznetsov, Bjugstad, Tarasenko, Bennett, Etem, Nelson.

I give Krieder the benefit of the doubt, but he was not good last season in the AHL either and was known he was not physically or mentally prepared. Can't blame Torts for that since he didn't get his paws on him until January.

I hope so, too.

If he and Boyle can play every game like they do in the playoffs, then it will be a fun season. Their play can open things up for others.
