I like this deal, makes sense, works for the team and Hainsey. Still I feel sorry for Pitkänen. A lot. First, Lydman retired and then this. Finnish d-men... A rare sight nowadays.

I expect that JR may make another move before the start of the season to retain the flexibility of using the extra CAP space that will be available by using LTIR on Joni when the season starts. Since some of his salary will be covered by insurance, getting closer to the CAP won't hurt as much for PK and will allow most of his 4.5M to count over the CAP. The question I have is will/should it be another defensive acquisition (if I remember correctly, most thought the mystery free agent JR spoke about early in the summer was a defenseman due to JR's statement about moving a defenseman's contract) or a veteran forward (such as Morrow)?

I know the avs dont have a very exciting Dcore to begin with, but the Canes arent looking that much better than ours...might be a tough year with that unit.

*Edit..sorry forgot about Murphy as a prospect, could be impactful if he makes the team this year, he was a stud with Kitchner*

While he's definitely not speedy...this is a very solid deal for the Canes.

Pending the health of Wardo...I think you guys will be a very solid team.

seems like a no-brainer for the canes at that price/term.

The only thing that unit will have to do is make a solid first pass. With the back pressure by the forwards this team won't need superstar Dmen...just solid serviceable guys. I think they can make it work. Especially if Cam Ward is healthy.

If he has a great start to the season he could lead Canada into the Olympics...he has that ability.

They arent pretty, but you are right, they could do the job, but then again you are hoping they work, sort of the like The Replacements,

I like Hainsey, I think its a solid signing and player to acquire, but hes no Joni for working your PP. Komaserak could have a bounce back year, or he really could just be washed up. A lot of gambles here

I'm okay with the signing and the price and term were favorable but of the choices available I still think I would have preferred trading for Niskanen from the Penguins.

I really like this signing. Hainsey will hopefully fit in nicely. With the extra cap room, I still hope JR gets another defenseman, ie: Niskanen. They are still one injury away the same situation, and IMHO you can't have enough nhl-ready D on your roster.

Still hoping for Brendon Morrow, but not certain if he's interested in signing with the Canes'. Only time will tell.

Good deal. I like Hainsey. He's a guy that can play a top 4 role for you and not look out of place on the Power play, Penalty kill or at even strength. Not everyone can be an Erik Karlsson, and to add a top 4 guy who's biggest strength is Versatility without being a Liability for 2 mil. That's a good deal.

After last season with Mcbain/Sanguinetti/Corvo on the back end ,Komi/Sekera/Hainsey looks MUCH better ,and should give up about 10 SOG per game less...Not flashy but solid. Now on to Morrow

when you compare what to you had last year, yeah that looks like a big improvement to me as well.

Hows Skinner looking in camp? Already for a bounce back season? I always draft that little bugger in my pools, I am hoping for a good year for him again

Imo I see a bounce back year for Skins with Lindholm as his winger ,and as of now Dvorak for a camp try out ,but look for another vet hopefully Morrow on his line ,and putting him back on the 3rd line as Center should be better matchup vs other teams 3rd lines so his Fantasy numbers should be back to where they should be ,so a 50+ point season shouldn't be a problem as his PP time will still be there...Also a full camp under Muller can't hurt either.

Totally agree, Hainsey is a very good dman. Shot blocker, can qb a pp and an excellent skater who can log 20 mins a game.

it could be the lack of pressure and the great environment that the organization provides
