#RedWings are $637K over cap and have 16 #NHL forwards signed without Cleary. Only one, Nyquist, is waiver exempt.

....and this is why athletes shouldn't complain when they get played, or perceive they are getting the raw end of the deal during CBA negotiations. It's a d**k move when you have an agreement and break it. No credibility as a person! Hopefully he gets his karma coming back to him and the flyers make a better move!

I am actually happy with it, we have enough skilled players to fill out the top six so his skills will not be stretched, as a bottom six forward he knows the system and never quits

Ek, have you ever thought of writing a music blog? I really enjoyed your music reference in last nights update. Can't believe you know so much about hockey AND music.

Seems pretty unprofessional to not even pick up the phone and tell the team that offered you nearly 9 million dollars you're not coming. I'd rather that roster spot and cap hit go to a younger player anyway. Bottom 6 grinders like Cleary are the kind of player every organization should be able to produce internally w/out spending close to 3 million a yr for a 34 year old free agent.

Flyer fans: be very glad the deal fell through for you. Cleary is not worth anything close to what he was asking.

Some Wings fans are still loyal to him and keep harping that Cleary put some points up in last year's playoff run. Yeah.. he did. But he has been crap the last three regular seasons. He is not a finisher. He's a 3rd / 4th liner at best. He has two bad knees.. (operations on both last year) and is almost 35 years old. I hope it's only a 1-year deal. The Wings need that roster spot for the talented young guys like Nyquist, Tatar, Anderssoon, etc.... This is yet another example of Holland letting his loyalty to older vets clouding his judgement.

That "better move" was not signing him to the rumoured amount/ years that they had agreed upon.
He's decent... but at 34 with bad knees... they should be happy he stayed in DET

Your only right about a couple of things, he did have surgery and he would have been over paid in philly for the contract they offered. With that said hes a solid 3rd liner on almost any team and WELL worth 1.75 for a ONE YEAR DEAL! he competes hard every game, he doesnt put up outstanding numbers but hes far from "crap" the last 3 years. To me if philly had got him for 1 year 1.75, i would have said "outstanding signing and im totally jealous"
