You think the Flames would move a guy like Brodie for Franson (or his rights if he would play in Calgary) ? as I am asking this I am noticing that you guys have quite a few offensive D would Calgary be looking for a more defensive minded one ?

Yeah, I would think that the Flames would hope to bring in another stay at home guy for the blueline rather than a Franson type guy, but you should not pass on him if hes available for that reason alone.

I love Gio and before Hartley came to town thought he was the obvious choice for he flames next captain. However he hasn't proven himself an effective part of Hartley's system and I feel like he was frustrated by that last year. I think a captain of such a young team should be able to show the guys that hard work pays off, and under Hartley I'm not sure Gio can do that.

This is true. You guys interested in Volchenkov ? I am sure if he would waive is NT to go to Calgary Lou would take the same return he did for Tallinder lol so Basically a player who barely fits into your ECHL team

I don't see Brodie going anywhere, even for a guy like Franson who seems to be a step ahead developmentally at this point...

Yea I just wanted to know if you guys would do that deal as I assume that would be the price for Franson. The thing about Franson is he might be the biggest puck moving defensemen out there unless you count a guy like Chara or Myers.

Brodie is 23yo, and doing quite well in his development not a chance he gets moved. This year he will be likely playing first pairing. That being said we could sure use a Franson to add to what we have, sure would help round out the D

Franson is a very nice player to have. All though he isn't the meanest you don't have to worry about him getting run over when chasing a dump in like you might with a Streit type Offensive D. He is a big shot and is a solid passer plus he has played in the west so there wouldn't be a transition period.

People have been critisizing his defensive play and physicality, though Ive seen improvements in both...he will be a solid additon when/if the Leafs sign him or to anyone who acquires him should they not be able to agree to terms.

Apparently the Leafs take the 1st on an offer sheet for Franson. Something tells me Burke is going to pressure Feaster into at least trying to get a trade.

Someone in the NHL will offer sheet him all it's going to cost is 3.3mil and a 1st.

I disagree, I think Gio has been steady and has the professionalism and work ethic that is required by a captain. Sure hes struggled a little of late, but who hasnt from the group? This is Hartleys first full training camp with the team, it will pay dividends in comparison to last year

I dont doubt with Burke and Nonis' relationship that their not discussing it. But I believe the Leafs stand firm on their 2yr offer and maybe wiggle on the dollar amount. It could go so far as to waiting a few weeks with Franson on the sidelines until the Leafs can move Liles if both parties feel he deserves more than around $2.5 per

Whats going to be tough for Nonis is the fact that they signed Gunnarsson to 3.1M who is the same age with roughly the same number of games played. Though its not hard to argue that Gunnarsson is used as a top pairing defender where Franson is not.

Id rather keep Brodie over Franson, personally. Brodie has yet to break out...who knows what he can offer

I agree Nonis isn't losing any sleep over Franson, maybe Kadri caused him some heartburn, but not Franson. Yeah they can make it work, but they have very little wiggle room. They definitely need a cap dump but like most teams out there, don't want to pay much for the dump. I have no issue with Gio as Captain. Interesting comments by Cammi, maybe he's tired of bouncing around.

Who do you like better Gunner or Franson? I like Franson better there is just a lot to like about him. I liked him in Nashville and thought it was funny when he wasn't good enough to play for the Great Leafs in his first year there but was Good enough to play on a team that had actually been making the play offs its only now the Leafs fans are realizing what they have in him.

I can see Liles being moved to Calgary for a mid level pick.

Ive always been a bigger fan of Gunnar type guys...quietly does the job, not flashy. Franson though he can move the puck and score, isnt all that strong in his own end...still a work in progress there, though hes been better.

Though I dont think they need to move Liles, I agree...hes not a Carlyle type guy and coule be useful to a young Flames team...then again, he would take up a spot from one of the kids so it will all depend on how preseason goes for the rookies I guess.

What about glencross? Thinking of calgary, he would be my choice, seems like a gritty guy who plays hard alot of the time.

What's going to be tough is once the salary cap no longer allows that 10% cushion and a team just forces TOR hand.

I don't see GlenX being moved anytime soon if at all. Maybe at the deadline for a bubble team or a team looking to shore up for the playoffs (which won't be us).

Hey Colin, whats your opinion on Phaneuf? Will he get moved this year or do you see him getting extended?

What about as a captain option?
