Make sure you take that slate, mold it into a bowl and collect your tears in it. Id like to bathe in it when the season is over and the Flyers dont make the playoffs again. |

Would you rather have Bryz or Emery/Mason combo? I know people say Emery was a great value signing but that Chicago team was special, I don't see him playing as well for the Flyers. That means a lot of pressure on Mason.

I think ray emery is a fantastic goaltender ... When he was in Ottawa his playoff performance was great, he was always a starter in my mind |

he's had to change his style because of injuries since his ottawa days though. I still love the guy, but i dont think he'll ever be healthy enough to carry a full load as a starter again. |

I like the clean slate mentality, no one feels better about hearing that than Richards, man must be breathing a lot easier knowing Torts is 3000 miles away. |

“Everybody has a clean slate and a chance. IT may not be a long chance, but everyone will get a chance and an opportunity. It’s up to them to grab it. Depending on different things, a lot of times the guys make the decisions for us based on how they play. They wanna show what they can do..”
Somehow I think this is directed at Stu Bickel |

Six year deal.... Your move Glen Sather - airjan23
That's not good news for the Rangers. I do hope it moves this negotiation along to a quick end. |

Isn't it odd that the traditionally smaller market clubs, or if you prefer, teams that may not always spend to the cap, like Buffalo and New Jersey are the ones committing big dollars on long term deals on less proven players while the big market teams who annually spend to the cap are forced to try to cram their young players under the cap?
I understand that clubs like Buffalo and New Jersey are taking calculated risks signing those deals now hoping to reap the rewards of superstar players making well below-market salaries but the downside if Hodgson or Henrique don't turn into legit top centers or suffer injury can put each of these programs in a big hole.
This whole situation seems bass-ackwards to me. |

NJ always spends to the cap on mediocre players. |

Perhaps with the complance buyouts now part of the CBA, the smaller teams
Feel like they have less to lose in a long term deal thatsy not work out.

Compliance buyouts were only allowed this summer and next. No way that either club would use that buyout on either player even if each had a bad season. |

Interesting. I didnt realize it ended after next season.
Now everything makes sense. Hard to see how the rangers don't buyout richards next year with that being the case. |

I thought it was only for contracts signed under the old CBA? Could you even use a compliance buyout on someone signed this year or last? |

Definitely a big risk, hoping these guys make the last few years look like a steal. If they play like they think they are going to play in their careers it's possible they fear these guys will get to be big stars and demand outrageous money and bolt for a bigger market so lock them up for as long as possible and pray you're right. |

What you say would make sense since it is referred to as a "Compliance Buyout" but I am not 100% sure. |

You have to be right in your evaluations of your players far more often than not. Because if they are wrong they will be hamstrung for years to come. |
