I think Kadri can be a very, very good player. However, are they more likely to see the guy who put up 18 goals and 44 points in 48 games? Or they guy who put up 5 goals and 16 points in 51 games? It's probably closer to the former, but for a guy who's had 1 good season, he sure seems to want a lot of money.

i wouldnt sign kadri to a long term extension over 5 mil already without seeing another year out of him

if that means loosing him VIA a trade so be it

Good read...know what the difference between Kadri and Tavares is? Wait, I just answered my own question...not even in the same ballpark yet as players. Kadri can take a flying leap if he thinks that's reasonable.

I wouldn't trade him, but I wouldn't pay him what he's asking either.

The thing is, if you sign Kadri now to 3 million, and he puts up 70-80 points next year, he's going to want 6-6.5 mill. Book it.

somehow i highly doubt Kadri is looking for a Tavares-type deal.

If that's the case, he deserves it. However, if you sign him to a long term deal for $5M per and he perenially puts up 16/22/38, then you're locked in for modest production.

To me, one good year should not get you a long-term, big-$$ contract. Let's see him do it again.

I wish you were right but I sense from his comments/attitude I don't think it is far off.

and nothing wrong with that. wouldn't you be happy to pay at that point? same with the Habs and Subban. they'll pay through the nose but they'll be happy to do so given they'll be signing a Norris contender.
but i don't think the Leafs would be interested in a 1-year deal for Kadri. they'll likely be in a similar crunch next summer (unless Phaneuf walks) and need him locked in at a reasonable hit for 2 years.

Exactly. If he shows that he can replicate or improve his production from last year, then sure, give him the $$ he deserves. On the other hand, if you're the Leafs, you have to make sure that you weren't getting fool's gold last year and get locked in long term for a player who's only had 1 good (half) season.

Kadri for 4 years at 4 Million would be fine with me, and with clever cap wiggling sign Franson for 1/2 years at 2.5.

I'm not sure he'd be cool with only signing for a half year. Good $$ though.
