Hope you had a great weekend Colin! I think if you look at where the Flames ranked on their prospects, near the bottom & look today where Pronman has them at 10th, I would say the rebuild did start about 2 years ago. Edwards wouldn't let him blow up the core until just last year, so I would think the prospect stable will climb even further up the charts. This year is a no brainer from expectations, the big question & test will be to see if Feaster can make that transition back to winning & how long that will take.

You are giving Feaster way to much credit. He pretty much had to have a hammer hit on his head for him to realise that they needed a re-build.

Also the team that will be on the ice this year was not "plan A". He said at the STH that the flames would spend to the cap. More than likely the only reason the flames don't have some more aging veterans on the team is because he was told "NO" by UFA's and he judged the trade market wrong.

Almost forgot... he has traded away 2 2nd round picks since he took over. That is no different than Sutter.

Got my tickets for the Sept 14 pre-season game against the oilers. Can't wait to see some of these prospects.

Morning guys...yes it was a great weekend! Went to northern ontario to visit a family friends cottage and drank a poop ton of beer! Need the week to recover methinks How about you guys?

And good point, I was almost tempted to add that the Flames may be on a quicker track than the Oilers to start competing again...it will certainly be telling depending on how the Oilers do this year I think. Another missed playoffs or what you have could spell disaster.

I've already been making bets (not huge ones) that the Flames finish higher in the standing than the oilers this year.

I'm heading out to Bracebridge on Thursday myself for a little RNR, plan on having a few pops too! Worked all weekend

On a Flames note, a team I love to hate...but in a friendly respectful way, how many of those prospects did Feaster actually bring into the fold?

One of those 2nd round picks was in the Cammy deal...who will be traded for a 1st or young prospect at the deadline most likely.

Feaster has drafted well especially in the later rounds

Oilers finished one point better than the Flames last year with Calgary icing a roster that they were hoping would lose down the stretch. Its not out of the realm of possibility that the Flames finish higher. They dont have the top end but I think they are more balanced than the Oilers still. Obviously goal tending is the wild card. I dont see either making the playoffs

The 2nd round pick ended up being a very early 2nd round pick. The flames might recieve a late 1st round pick. Considering they are paying Cammi $7 million a year ($6 million cap hit) i don't think that is a great return in money spent. I guess i will give him credit for the trade being a wash considering that they got rid of Bourque.

I will give Feaster credit in drafting. When i say that, i mean he is smart enough to step aside and let Weisbrod and the scouting staff make the picks. Feaster is on record saying that scouting is not his forte.

I am a die hard flames fan and i don't think there is much chance that they are not the worst team in the west. I don't think the Oilers will make the playoffs but they will still be in the hunt after X-mas. I can't say the same for the flames.

Well, Feaster was brought in May2011 and has seen 3 NHL drafts...so...even though he has a team of scouts etc, you cant say he had nothing to do with them.

No, otherwise they wouldn't have been allowed at the development camps either. It's because they are in school. They aren't allowed to play in pro leagues (i.e., CHL, AHL, NHL) and should they sign a pro contract they aren't allowed to play for their respective teams. It's because they all are going back to school that they will not be attending.

Yeah the flames roster for this year is pretty awful. I would be stunned to see this team anywhere but the basement (bottom 10 at least).

Ittl take a couple years if they do it right. Longer if they don't, but hopefully they do. Always like to see Canadian teams do well.

Nice food for thought write up CD... I think we have for the first time in a long time a hope for the future outside the win the cup this year mentality. The roster Feaster has worked with and around is left over from the 'win now' focus the Flames ownership (apparently) had. The scouting staff has changed and I think thats why there are true prospects in the organization. We will not come anywhere near the playoffs this year, thats for sure and I think (most of us) are okay with that. The Oil are going to be interesting to see what they become... Soooo much potential but I'm not sure the pieces added from MacT equate to a playoff team and this year I think that won't be received well up north...
