I think he gets it to and for someone who is quite good in the offensive department he doesnt lack size that the good pp qb's often do. It would be nice to see him turn into a Franson type player for us. Any idea on why Lou might not being trying to move Urbom to a team loaded with Offensive prospects but might be lacking in the D prospects? I'm not saying he hasn't tried, that we don't know but I would be trying to.

As long as another young defensemen makes the team besides larsson don't give a (frank) who it is. Need some new blood back there desperately.

Sal is going to take a body check and blow into dust back there I agree there needs to be one more prospect on the team this year it won't do any of Gelinas or Urbom much good to go through another season in the A. Gelinas should be on the team with Urbom getting moved to a team for a decent forward prospect. Merril should play a full season with Albany just to get a full pro season under him.

Absolutely need to make a move. Logjam is getting ridiculous. Both Urbom and Gelinas should of been in the lineup the last five games last year. Would of been nice to get a better look at them in the nhl.

If I were Urbom I'd respectfully ask for a trade. From his career's persepctive, I wouldn't want to use another year in my 20's playing in the AHL when he could be a bottom-pairing NHL man on another team.

I completely agree, Todd. Gelinas looked comfortable in his 1 or 2 games in NJ last year. Kid's got a lot of good tools that if he can translate to the NHL game and also shut it down defensively, he'll be a great 2nd pairing guy. Kind of like a Souray.. but hopefully better defensively.

If I were Urbom, I'd be thankful I'm even being talked about.

not having preseason and only a compressed 48 game schedule is a good reason why we didn't see them much last year.

The one game he played, he looked good. Responsible play, good passes and good shot. He did everything right and handled his debut well. He will replace Zid sooner rather than later.

Frank I would love to poach Kadri from Toronto try and offer sheet Franson to whatever we can to not give up a first and hopefully its enough that they would have to move someone to sign Kadri which hasnt worked out for them yet and we wheel a deal for him easier said then done I know but now that we got rich owners I wouldnt mind to see us make a bold move like this

The problem for poor Urbom is two-fold. (And this applies for Gelinas, too. Thought I think Gelinas > Urbom).

First, as I mentioned a while back on another thread, fans of teams over-value their prospects & think they're all going to be the shizznit.

Sometimes, they suck. Urbom may be one of those. Most fans used to rave about how he was going to be a 2-4 guy. Now he may be lucky if he ends up a 5-7 guy. It's unrealistic to think in a few years that Merrill, Urbom, Severson, Scarlett, Gelinas, Santini and someone else may be our NHL defensemen. Truth is, only 2 of them might be worth a poop. The rest will be average to below-average, and the team will likely have a mix of veteran average D-men.

The other problem, is that our defense is old, slow, and not very good in my opinion. Just because someone is a starting defenseman in the NHL, doesn't mean they should be. For reference see Mottau, Mike. Or Aki Berg even. The staff in NJ think Salvador, Volchenkov, Zidlicky, and Tallinder (until recently) are a winning lot of defensemen. Right now, NJ has 1 good defensemen (Greene), one with potential who right now is average overall only because he is young (Larsson), and one who belongs in a 5-7 role, most likey a 7th d-man role (Fayne). Harrold is a journeyman for a reason and while not bad, is a 7th d-man at best. The fact they re-signed Zids tells me all I need to know about this team & staff's perception of defensemen.
