Can't wait for the season to start. Should be a fun year (compared to last year).

Good move if the Flyers signed Wellwood to a Minor League contract. Keeps him off the 50 contract reserve list, and off having to carry him on the Cap during the Season.

Love reading your analysis about the young guys in the system. Other writers always overvalue prospects or write off late round picks as guys who have no chance.

It seems for the first time in a while, the next draft will be one where I hope the Flyers will look to add depth at forward (and hopefully goaltending). Laughton has some offensive upside, but they don't have anyone who projects as a top 6 forward.

Also allows him to rehab with the organization he's most comfortable with.

Rough breaks for Leier on the injury front. Looking forward to seeing him light it up in his 3rd junior season.

I would think the organization would have to pay for his rehabilitation, regardless. He was hurt while in their employ.

Nice update Bill, as always. It's always beneficial to watch these kids with some knowledge of their abilities and what they need to work on.

Jean-Guy is 79? Cripes. I remember him skating on the "French Line" for the Flyers alongside Andre Lacroix, and (vaguely) D!ck Sarrazin (later Simon Nolet).

The rookie games are always fun, you never know who will stand out. It's good to see that they could be moved from Vorhees to Wells Fargo when the Flyers get home advantage. James van Riemsdyk was certainly a beast in his rookie game, a personal favourite of mine. Schenn and Couturier played well in their rookie game together but not enough shine the same JvR did. I'm very excited to see what Laughton and Morin can do against other rookies their own age. I'll be keeping a close on both of them. I'm hoping to see some flashes of offense from Samuel Morin

I hope Chubak turns out to be a stellar goalie so the Wachy Shach can play Chewbacca's roars and growls after great saves.

Hope so, too, but he's an R2D2 sized goalie in today's era of huge netminders.

Straka is a top-6-or-bust sort of prospect.

Height isnt everything, but it obviously can help if the goaltender uses it correctly. See Rinne, Pekka. But a 5'10" Bernie Parent will tell you height need not matter

Being 6'3" certainly didn't help Michael Leighton.

Height means something but it doesn't mean everything. It's really all about the motion in the ocean to tell ya the truth.

Completely off topic: Finally saw the movie "Goon".

I think it might be the worst hockey movie ever.

6'3 is average i think these days. 6'4-6'8" is the new breed.

It's sad but true that NHL teams leaguewide more or less have adopted a "small goalies need not apply" policy these days. Wasn't even all that long ago that there were still plenty of smaller goalies in the NHL (think Hasek, Richter, Vanbiesbrouck, Belfour, even tiny little Arturs Irbe) but they've largely become a dying breed in the NHL. Tim Thomas was a recent throwback-like exception, both for his height and, um, "conditioning" as well as a rather old-school style of making saves.
