I wish Edmonton would've taken guys like this when we had space. Give them 1 year deals and make it clear that if they play well they will be dealt at the TDD, everyone can win.

It's probably in your best interest if Feaster dealt them not give them multi-year extensions with NMC.

Yeah but if they turn their games around & play really well, why not keep them?

He is in the right age range, plays C and RW, possible top 6 upside .... 1 year prove yourself contract and then see where the chips fall come TDL, but at this point, if he does turn it around, keeping him around would not be so bad either

Last one he signed was Wideman's, so I think they are getting away from that now

It's risky business. Guys that wait until the end of August to sign a deal with a lotto team more than likely play pretty damn desperate during the year. Not sure the guarantee of good play is going to follow suit the year after.

^ this is why I voted no... want the Oil to grab him, especially since there's a chance they'll only have 2 NHL level centres (Gags and Gordon) to start the season with til Nuge's robot shoulder is ready.

Calgary won't sign these guys because they could be very good.

After getting rid of Ing, Kip?, and Bou the last thing they want to do during a rebuild is bring in a few guys that could take them from dead last to 5-6 last.

Its gonna take a lot more than Monahan to turn this club into a contender.

Calgary probably needs 3 years with bottom 5 finishes to create a successful franchise.

Agreed with first part but theres no guarantee that bottoming out will help either.

As per my discussion the other day...tanking and drafting high is no guaranteed success story. Take a look at the NYI...drafted 10 times in the top5 over the past 20 drafts...how they doin?

Couple things on the Isles, bad trades and stupid draft picks screwed them up in the 90's.

The past 10 years they really never had top picks until Tavares in 09 and if you look as him as the starting point they are probably tracking not bad, but now instead of drafting the wrong players or making stupid trades they have stupid ownership. A team is only going to go as far as ownership is allowing them to go.

You do well drafting and have an ownership willing to spend some money then your rebuild have a real good chance at working out. Not saying this will lead to a cup, but it should lead to a team that is competitive more often than not

Yeah, so reward them with a 2-3 year deal with a pay raise. If they raise their level of play because of contract motivation, that may have a long term affect in turning around their game to a higher level consistently.

I say sign him, he is still a decent player, he was lights out with Duchene until he got hit and the concussion problems set in. I dont think in Florida he got to play his style of game. However he was way more productive on the wing rather than a center.

If he is allowed to run and gun with a guy like baertschi, he could be effective

Guys like Mueller aren't the types you reward. Thinking they will play motivated after a contract extension is going to end up biting you in the ass.

There's reasons why he is unsigned, go ahead and sign him, if that's what it takes to figure it out.

Common sense would dictate that you don't finish in the lotto 3 years in a row and then win the cup. Even Pittsburgh with Crosby and Malkin managed to end up picking 2nd overall
