Are you kidding?

If Kadri accepts that deal it would be great for the Leafs...6 years of control and it could be a bargain for most of the term..

I don't see how we go wrong paying Kadri less than Bozak for more years.

More teams should be trying to sign players long term with one good year under their belts while coming off horrendous year.

As much as the club wants the bridge deal, this makes sense long term for both in a lot of ways. As long a Kadri remains a good top 6 guy, 4 mill a year in 3 years would look amazing. It reminds me of Kessel, not that he's as good of course, but he wanted a long term deal, and the reality of it is the last couple years Phil would be making a mill maybe a mill and a half more than what he has been by signing the longer term deal.

will Nonis be cornered into giving Kadri a deal he doesn’t want to????

you mean cornered into giving him less than he is worth?
if Kadri signed the exact deal Henrique just did, count me in.

Making room for that contract really isn't anywhere near as big a deal as the media makes it out to be. Trade Liles, keep a bit of his contract and dump Orr.....done.

If Kadri wants 4 a year I'de do it too. The cap problems weren't there to begin with, at the start of summer I mean.

Fact is, Leafs have just under 5 million in cap space. 2 guys need to be signed. It boils down to first come first serve and the one left standing out in the cold will have to wait until the Leafs get their cap space aligned. Right now, they dont have to make any moves to sign Kadri to that deal. Franson, on the other hand, will require Nonis to get creative.

Keep Orr.

They have enough to do that contract (even up to 4.9m/yr) without having to do any of that. It means franson is gone though

Not exactly Franson, but it means someone(s) will be gone. Depends what Nonis has in mind and what potential moves are out there.

Here's a question, if they do lose Franson, would any of you have traded Franson for either of Bolland or Bernier?

Liles is the obvious first choice
but with 3 years left on his deal, it's going to be real tough to move him

I was already factoring in Franson, because quite simply he is too big a part of the Leafs future to consider trading.

For the term, that could be a steal. Or it could blow up in out faces if Kadri was truly the beneficiary of a shortened season and never becomes a consistent top 6 center. I'm more inclined to think it would work out alright.

However, the issue is that in Kadri's mind, the Henrique deal probably makes him think he's a 6 million dollar man.

Henrique put up a lousy 16 points last year, for comparison.

Yeah if kadri takes 4 million, even next year might be a steal if he can produce. It would actually be dumb on kadri part to sign that over a bridge contract he screw himself out of money most likely.

Which is why I don't think the cap space, or lack of it, means Franson is gone if Kadri signs for 4-5 million a season.

Liles would be the first option, but hardest, to trade. Kulemin might be seen as less valuable to the team and future of the team than Franson. Maybe they trade someone else. Who knows how this will all play out, but Nonis has to get creative.

Thing is, at 4 mil even 4.5 he really only has to produce maybe 50 points to be about right. IMO he's a 60 plus point guy for sure, more when he gets a little older.

the PK deal works for Kadri in the exact same way it did/will for PK.
Subban believed he would be a superstar and make 8 million a year when the bridge contract was over. He is cocky....I think Kadri sees himself as a superstar as well, and probably wants a bridge contract so he can go for the payday.
I wouldn't be surprised if it was Nonis wanting to tie up Kadri long term.
