Jan Levine: Offseason 20+ Questions: Brassard's Play In NY: True Reality or Fools Gold?
Which Brassard is the Real One - Columbus or NY? - airjan23
Great write up Janny, I was on board with the Gabby deal last yr & for the time being it seemed to work for us. Moore & Dorsett played to who they were & Brassard outplayed even my expectations. He may come back to earth some, but I feel he can be our 2nd line Center for many, many years to come.
The Arniel thing is a bit of a head scratcher but I thought I had already seen publicly both sides say all is good. I hope so. |

I don't get Arniel either. Is he important to the cause that he has to be brought in, even though there was bad blood between he and Brassard? |

Arneil and AV are besties. They have their pets, guys that no matter how bad they play they see top minutes. And guys no matter how hard they play, they get benched. Both have a awful history with young guys. |

I think your view is a little skewed, not for nothing, but wait till Torts nails Daniel's butt to the bench because he didn't backcheck hard enough. |

Alright, AV and Arneil are the greatest Is that better? AV will help guys like Del Zotto and Girardi. Great with D men who like to get in on offense.
But he will be a disaster for guys like Brassard, Krieder, Stepan etc. He hate emotional responses like sticking up for teammates. He expects his players to be robots |

Sounds like Torts in reverse. I think all these guys have the quirks, the goal is to play well enough so that they just stand there and look good in their suit. |

They are exact oppisites. From torts snapping at his team to AV never addressing them because"they know what they did wrong"
I actually think both are top 5 coaches who simply lost the room. |

Not sure about that, granted I haven't witnessed enough of AV in game, but I think each coach has an instinctual need to relate players of a new team to fill the same needs he used on his old team.
I.E. Nash will be his Daniel, he'll attempt for Richards to be his Henrik, but eventually rely on Stepan to take over the role. Callahan and Krieder will be his Kesler and Burrows. He doesn't have a choice.
AV will need young players to produce to keep his job in NY. |

from the minute he got here, the coolest thing about Brassard was that it was so evident he loved being a NY Ranger, from the minute he stepped on the ice.
Really enthusiastic, kind of what they had been missing a bit since Prospal left the team.
His passing skills are absurd, and hopefully we see more of like on this goal that beat the Isles in OT

I WAS right there, a few rows behind where Girardi scored that goal! If it wasn't for Hank we lost that one 4 or 5-0. Great pass by Brassard there. |

According to Sean Gentile of the Sporting News, who is at the US Olympic Hockey Orientation Camp, Ryan Callahan's shoulder is progressing with no setbacks to date. |

so much of Callahan's game is dependent on him hitting, definitely something to keep an eye on when he really gets going to see how that shoulder responds |

I'm worried that injuries like this will be an annual occurance and hinder his long term effectiveness in this game. That is something the Rangers will have to seriously consider before doling out a max length contract. Callahan is most effective when he is playing a physical game and if he isn't able to do that after age 30 then what kind of a player will he be? |

I don't think any of us truly expect a point-per-game output from Brassard over a full season however, if he can score at about a 60-point pace this season and be a threat on the power play with his underrated shot and passing ability then I don't think any of us will complain. |

Beat me to it, but in my opinion, Stepan should get more than, $.5-$1 mil per year above Henrique. They could sign now for $4 mil without major cap concerns and will be interesting to see how this pans out. |

Interesting deal. Obviously paying more in the short-term than they probably would have to pay him, but they have the space, and it will probably be a good long term deal. Definetely a little risk involved, however. |

Some of these contracts are definetely making Slats life harder with the Stepan. I wonder what Kadri will end up getting. |

Deal i good for the Devils, they have cap space. Makes Slats life a lot harder. Stepan is par with Henrique. This gonna put the team in tough spot. |

compared with the fact that the Devils are paying Travis Zajac a ludicrous 5.75 million a year, the Henrique deal isn't so bad |
