Do you think there is any chance Feaster trades his first this year for young immediate help? im still unclear on if he still wants try and compete or if he is ready to let the cards unfold. He seems to me like the type of guy that will try anything to try and improve his team and trading that first could do that and he has pulled a few head scratchers before

Nope. I don't see any scenario where he moves that pick.

Do you think he takes Reinheart or Ekblad or is there someone you see sneaking in an taking 1 overall from these two

I kind of feel like they'll take Reinhart due to family history with CGY, etc. but I'm inclined to believe Ekblad is the bigger need and he's a hell of a player.

Good post Todd and I agree 100 percent. The Flames are just not very good and competing in the new division is going to be real gruesome.

The real test imo will not be the players but coaching. The team is hopefully going to continue on stackong up on young talent. Its going to be up to the coaches to mitigate pressure and provide enough shelter for the kids as they transition into the nhl. Personally I don't want to see the rooks have 20+ min games to start the year let alone fot 82 games. I'm hoping feaster brings in a few mid lvl bandaids to help the future roster transition in.

Agreed with this. The guys who should be getting 20+ are Baertschi, Brodie, and perhaps one of Cundari/Hanowski/Monahan. The last 3 are conditional on their play indicating the maturity and ability. Either way B&B should be getting big minutes to hopefully break out.

What do you think of Hartly as a coach do you guys like him? I remember when the Devils were looking for a coach a few fans were shocked he wasnt a stronger option giving his previous coaching of Kovy in ATL

Nothing wrong with sucking this year or even next year since the rebuild is on.

What benefit would it be for the Flames to actually be in the hunt for a playoff spot anyways?? They have too many concern areas so continue the rebuild, stock some high-end prospects & go from there.

Just hope that it doesn't take as long as the dreadful Oilers rebuild!!

#1 reason was their absolute denial for years that they needed to rebuild.

I think your guys denial was just slightly worse than ours. I don't mind seeing Gio, Brodie, Wideman getting 20+ minutes, & any of Butler & Cundari & SOB & Russell being in that 10-15 minute range depending on performance.

Up front guys like Backlund, Baerstche, Cammi, Hudler, Jones & Stajan can all handle 20 minues, possibly Knight, Monahan & Stemps.

Nothing that will put fear in anyone but we have no expectations this year but to hopefully continue to draft future franchise players.

Really not trolling here, so please don't take this the wrong way. How many games will the Flames win this year? Could be less than 20 IMO.

Why monahan and knight at 20 mins a game? The rooks need to be worked in. Backlund and baertch I'm pegging at 12-18 mins agame. Break them in slow. The team is not going to be good for a few years, why rush them?

What are you thinking it could be? 20-25?

It will be a blessing in disguise, especially if you draft top 5 for the next two years!

thats pretty low, but i kind of have to agree they'll win somewhere between 15 and 25 games, doubt they win anymore then 25 i'll be genourous and say they win 25 games 50 pts then add another 10 points from ot loses and you've a 60 pts season 25% of their wins will come via overtime or shootout. going to be a bleak year in calgary. As an oilers fan i try and put personal bias aside during the summer and look at each teams fairly. I just don't see the flames beeating anyone in their devision in the standings. They'll be bottom three team and it's the luck of the lottery that will decide if they pick first next year.

backland and beart will get 20 min a game easy.

backland should definitely be able to handle it, its his year to step up. Making him play is not rushing him at this point. But keep him and baert on the second line, rotating in jones and stemper with them on the RW

Monahan I think will play 9 games and go down unless he rips it up those 9 games in a big way. I'd rather not rush him

no thanks. cammy/hudler/stajan/jackman are there for transition. Stemper/GlenX are there because they want to play there. And with Jones, backland, Giglardi starting to enter their prime (and need to prove it), I think there's enough players on the roster to help ease Baert and any other rookies into things (like knight and horak)

Not trolling either here... I'd say that's high. 26-30 wins with 10 Buttman points.
