Good morning Bill
My guess is that whoever looks better in pre-season gets the call on opening night. After that, I think both will get a lot of work up to the Olympic break and shortly after it. At that point, whomever is playing better will get the nod as the #1. My guess (and hope, cause I believe he has more upside) is that Mason takes the job, but of course, we shall see.
Going off topic a bit, I'm pretty upset over what happened to Charlie Manuel yesterday. I think he had certainly earned the right to finish out the season. What do you think? |

scrambling to find another goalie as they always do. Drafting fucale would've been a good start to build on for the future, but for now they will be in deep |

at first i thought we'd see emery getting most of the starts early on, but i'm sure the flyers brass want to see if mason can return to form as well, and he'll need a lot of starts to determine that...
i can't wait to see how it unfolds
also, this site is seriously messed up - -davies-
I think it's finally working again.

Mason, I think he is a low risk very high reward for you guys. He played very well for the last 10 games at the end of the season. He will have very respectable numbers in my opinion with Laviotte system and that style of D-Core in front of him.
Its crazy how goalies can just turn on a switch like that going from one team to the other. (Anderson, Elliott, bobrovsky, lehtonen) who go from average goalies to legit starters |

While I agree that the current approach does have a bit too much of a "hoping for the best" element...
There is some promise with Mason, and Emery has shown the ability to be a solid goaltender.
I dont see Ray being a long term answer as I think the injury bug will bite, but ideally he helps groom Mason and take some pressure off the kid. |

Either way, I think its a stopgap year with the goaltending to see what the Flyers have in Mason.
Most probable goaltenders to hit FA next year include Halak, Hiller and Miller. |

I'll be completely honest, this is the most confident I've felt about the pipes since Robert Esche. |

I vorted for Rayzor. I hope they both do well, like the friendly competition, and win two Cups here -- one for each as starter.
If we're gonna dream, dream big. |

Heres question that was posted by the Devils blog:
How is the Metropolitan division gonna play out?
The Devils Fans were convinced the Flyers would be near the bottom and the Devils would be in the playoffs.
I see it like this:
1)Pens
2) Rangers
3) Flyers
4) Islanders
5) Caps
6) Devils
7)Columbus
8) Canes |

I really like Emery and I think if he didn't get hurt the first time with the Flyers this team would be much different. I think the cup drought would have ended. With that being said at this point I'd like to see Mason really turn things around and get back to where he was his first season. I'd love the team to have a true undisputed starter in goal and have someone that can play that position for years to come. |

I think this team surprises people this season. The goalie situation works itself out this year and the d plays well. I didn't have a great feeling about last year, too much was being counted on from the young players and for the most part their game suffered the sophomore slump. I also think the team didn't have confidence in Bryz or at least he was a serious distraction, with the two goalies they have it gets better. The team comes together and plays like a team. |

This may be something off the wall, but personally, I have a high level of excitement concerning Ray Emery. It's amazing he's even playing Hockey at this point. He has overcome a serious injury, and never quit. A guy like that has a lot of Karma working for him. And I believe the Flyers will be the beneficiary of that. |

Looks like a lot of non Flyer fans participated in this poll. If this was closed to just Flyers fans I would guess that Mason would garner most of the vote. It was only 8 games last year but he looked very good. |

I really don't care which guy emerges. I will always root for Ray Emery, because he's a battler and the odds he's overcome are staggering. But as long as both play well, I have zero issue with who ends up the number one guy. - Jsaquella

Oh, they're trading for Ryan Miller at Christmas, after they fire Laviolette |
