If Stammer is asked he should refuse and tell them to make Marty the captain.

originally i wanted st louis to have the C . he deserves it the most, he works hard every game, hes respected everywhere, and he is a true leader and offensive weapon...you can't ask for much more...

so i thought to myself , even though marty deserves it the most and i personally want him to have it, we still have stamkos, who is much younger, will be around much longer, and will LEARN to represent it the way marty would...

i thought whats the point of picking st louis as captain, then having to pick another one (who would ovvciously then be stamkos) in 2-3 years? why dont we just pick him now?

then i thought to myself are you an idiot? tampa bay owes so much to this guy, and this would be a perfect way to give back to him what he has done for us..Also I came up with another logic: st.louis may be sticking around longer than we all think. We all know he wants to win a cup, we know it, he knows it, everyone knows he wants to win...but thats the perfect situation for him..

if he can wait it out another 2-5 years with the lightning, when johnson, drouin, gudas, possibly vasilevskiy, panik, kucherov, hopefully koekkeok are entering their prime, he will be at the end of his career, and in the perfect position to challenge for a cup in his final years ...he is in the right place.

and if hes going to stick around that long, i would rather have no one wear it than him

Cant believe more people voted for Stamkos than St. Louis. Stamkos is still a very very young player. I'm sure he's learned a lot from Vinny about leadership, but when you have a candidate like St. Louis, one of the hardest workers and competitors in the league, you give him the C. Marty probably will only play 3-4 more years in the league if that. Stamkos will stand to learn a lot under him. Marty also commands a lot of veteran respect in the locker room and around the league. Stamkos is in line after Marty, he will be a great leader when he's 25-26 years old.

St. Louis already has a Cup ring. Not to say he doesn't want another, but your making it sound like he's never won one.

It didn't sound like you knew. "We all know he wants to win a cup, we know it, he knows it, everyone knows he wants to win...but thats the perfect situation for him..."

What player in the league doesn't want it? You where so emphatic that he wants it so bad like he's never tasted it. Sounded like a Bourque story or an Iginla story...no big deal, was just interesting.

To by-pass St. Louis in favour of Stamkos could be perceived as an insult to Martin. The safe route is appoint Martin; you'll get no argument from Stammer, only support. Then Martin can deal with all the "Captain's" duties and leave Stammer to play hockey, knowing full well that when Martin retires, there will be the appropriate "passing of the torch".

Slam-dunk easiest decision for T.B. to make.

I think I'm the only logical choice.

Marty has got to be one of my favorite players.

He should have been wearing the "C" rather than Vinny IMO.

However, makes more sense to give it to Stammer at this point.

is this seriously up for debate? St. Louis seems like a no-brainer to me. Stamkos will have his turn in a few years.

Yeah and to me, the smarter move for the team in general is to make St Louis Captain. The only reason you would make such a young kid Captain is to light a fire under his butt and see him excel with the title. Stamkos doesn't need that, he's tearing up the league without the C on his chest. You could actually mess up his development by adding more pressure this early in his career. St. Louis can handle that role better and it leaves Stammer to just keep doing what he's been doing. If Stevie Y waits a little longer, chances are, Stammer will be able to handle it better. It also gives Stamkos an opportunity to work on developing his 2 way game teaching him more responsibilty too. Most successful Captains are great 2 way players because they lead by example and teach responsibility to everyone else. However great Stammer is at putting the puck in the net, he still has some learning to do the other way.

Lol, I guess that means you don't like to read. Cuz if you did, you would have noticed that most people commenting think St. Louis should get it. Not as obvious as you seem to believe.
