Part of rebuilding mean also to be mediocre for a period of time. The length of time it takes to get back as elite NHL teams depends a lot on management and drafting. Knowing the Flames just did their finale sale last season, I would consider them in the early stage of rebuilding. Resulting in a prediction of being last overall for the upcoming 2013-2014 NHL season.

In any case, the Flames shouldn't take as long as the Oilers did for rebuilding.
