He absolutely makes them better and that's not a rip on the Panthers but he still has valuable intangibles and comes very very cheap. Gomez from what I can remember has always been a strong puck possession player and has pretty good offensive zone entries. The points might have dropped off but in my opinion he is going to bring in a lighter sense what the Devils hope to get out of Jagr. No one will expect massive amounts of points but they both bring solid puck possession skills and can get your team and the puck in the offensive zone.

He would have fit in well on the Blackhawks bottom 6. I'm kind of jealous that the Panthers got him.

I think he adds value and would to almost any team. I remember watching him and everytime he touched the puck he could skate it from your end straight into the offensive zone. I haven't seen much of him lately but I would imagine that's a skill he still posses'. Its not like he is signed for 2.5 or even a million for that matter it would be hard to say he wouldn't be worth it when Orr was making a million.

Don't see why all the hate for Gomez.(not just saying this thread)

The thing that made him bad was his contract, we are giving him less then parros. This move is a no brainer. Gives our prospects that aren't ready a little more time to play in the AHL. And who knows maybe he finds his game again.(I doubt it though)

But not real risk and a big chance this move pays off big.

What made his contract so crazy is he didn't produce.
I guess for the price he's worth taking a chance on.
I almost feel like Flo would be better off giving a kid a shot at even cheaper.
Not like the panthers will be contending for anything this year.

You need to keep a good mix of youth and vets. The guy was praised to be like extra coach on the team. I would agree about playing more kids but have you seen what we look like at center? Barkov, Shore, Goc, bjugstad, and trocheck. Thats a lot of talent but almost no experience.

Let them fight it out in camp and the best players get the job no reason to just give it to them.

And also i wouldn't count us out already people seem to forget we won our division just the other year. And this was just a crazy year for us. IMO you can't use last years shorten season to gauge what will happen this coming season. I mean come on the leafs made the playoffs the BJ's almost made the show. So anything can happen!

I've never been a fan since he was in Jersey. Overrated IMO, always has been. Absolutely loved when Sather signed him and Drury to those contracts. Thought it was hysterical. 13 goals=7 million dollar player

Team went to the second rd the year bfr and pushed the Devils who went to the finals to game seven. If they can keep their injuries down expect them to be a different team this year. I know you're probably joking but i felt the need to explain anyway

I agree I was laughing too! 7 mill was a (frank)ing joke to offer the guy.

But do I think he is useless no I think he brings a lot to a team if he fits well in the system. At 900k I will give him a chance the guy isn't a goal scorer he is a playmaker so as long as he is picking up assists I will be happy.

Don't see why you are saying that every kid is getting every and all chances to make the team. We just aren't going to just hand it to them if they are not ready.

It's low risk for sure but you don't get in the dog house like he did on numerous teams for no reason. Sh!tty work ethic and lazy play since the rangers signed him. I did watch a couple of sharks games last season were he looked ok. Who knows, hopefully works out for you guys? Just hate him as a player and always thought he was waaaaaaay overrated. Facking hate the guy and its not bcs he was a ranger or devil. Just facking hate him like I want to knock his nose off his face

He's a waste, and at 33 he's an old waste. Tallon preaches playing young guys and turns around and signs this old fart who will probable take ice time away from a young guy. If you're going to go young then go young, we got enough old guys like Jovo, Campbell, Weaver and others.

Granted the contract is very cheap but why take away a roster spot from one of our up and commers. This team isn't going to make the playoff's so you might as well let the kids play and cut their teeth this season. We already have enough old school players on this team, Gomez isn't going to add anything that isn't on the roster already.

Yes he is a good vet to have. Regarding your teams projections, I'm old school, no matter what your team looks like on paper, you go into the season hoping they prove everyone wrong. So agreed
During the last decade the habs were not supposed to make the playoffs maybe 7 times. Big LOL! To that. No cup but a lot to be proud of.
